Default 2008 IMCA Super Nationals
COMP Cams® Powers Winners At Record-Setting IMCA Super Nationals

Kevin Stoa charges through to Modified win at the 26th annual IMCA Super Nationals

The 2008 IMCA Super Nationals set a new record of 825 cars from 23 states and Canada. After starting 18th, Kevin Stoa of Salisbury, NC, capped off the event nicely by charging through the pack and passing five-time race winner John Logue with five to go in the 40-lap contest, putting $2,008 in his pocket for the win.

Despite an early exit to fix a flat tire, Mark Noble ran third. Rounding out the top five were Jay Goosmann and Mike Mullen. Other champions of Saturday night’s event included Brian Irvine in the Stock Cars, Andy Boeckman in the Hobby Stocks and Harvey Vande Weerd in the Northern SportMods. Johnathan Thimmesch won the Harris Auto Racing Ron Efkamp Memorial Race of Champions for Modifieds, and Kevin Opheim won the Sunoco Race of Champions for Stock cars. Earlier in the week, the winners were Todd Cooney in the Deery Brothers Summer Series for Late Models on Monday, Tim St. Arnold in the Jackpot Junction Tour for Sprint Cars on Tuesday and Jay Noteboom in the All-Star Invitational for Modifieds.

COMP Cams® and fellow COMP Performance Group™ member, TCI® Automotive, were on-hand to provide racer support and gather product feedback. “This event turned out to be even better than we expected,” said Chris Douglas from COMP Cams®. “We are very happy to see our valve train products winning races and would like to congratulate Kevin Stoa and Brian Irvine, who use our valve train products to power their self-built race engines to victory.” COMP Cams® representatives would also like to congratulate Jason Frankel of Quincy, IL and engine-builder father Rick Frankel of Extreme Pro Race Engines. Frankel was recently crowned the 2008 IMCA Late Model National Champion.

The record number of participants included 305 Modifieds, 176 Stock cars, 139 Northern SportMods, 139 Hobby Stocks, 47 Late Models and 19 Sprint cars. COMP Cams® has been a sponsor and supporter of IMCA racing for over 10 years. Despite IMCA’s engine claim rule, these grass roots racers understand the importance of not cutting corners on valve train parts.
