Default 2008 Project American Heroes – Super Chevy magazine
COMP Cams®, TCI® and RHS™ have again pledged product support and sponsorship of this patriotic Camaro build to benefit the Armed Forces Foundation.

Below is a brief update provided by Ed Zinke publisher of Super Chevy magazine as to the start-up actions being put into motion.

"Absolutely fantastic vehicle renderings have been completed by Eric Brockmeyer are being readied for voting by serving men and women of the Armed Forces. We have five (5) versions for the voting process and each one is equally stunning which we expect will make results brisk. Thanks to Eric for his contribution and creativity."

"The voting that will appear at www.projectamericanheroes.net is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 19th. It will conclude on June 15th giving us 30 days for selection of the winner. Doug Stone of the Armed Forces Foundation is helping us “get the word out” to active service men and women. The winning rendering will then be made into the “real deal’ by Bill Jelinek and his talented Team at Route 66 Motorsports."

"Our goal is to complete the Camaro for its formal unveiling at the Route 66 SUPER CHEVY Show in Joliet IL where Roger Gustin has given his full support for a spectacular kick off on Saturday August 9th. More promotional details will be forthcoming."

Everyone at the COMP Performance Group™ is very proud to be involved with this project and we send a heartfelt “Thank You” to the members of the armed forces that are serving our country home and abroad. Stay tuned for further updates on this project as it unfolds!

Default Voting Is Underway!
Votes from around the world are being cast as of this writing, from Kuwait to South Africa. Interestingly enough, it is neck-to-neck between RED, BLUE, and ORANGE at this early date.

But we would like every serving man or woman in the Armed Forces to have their say in the final color scheme, so spread the word to cast their vote at www.projectamericanheroes.net

Vote early as their selection will count only through June 24th!

Default Project American Heroes Rolls Towards Deadline
Team Project American Heroes,

The build speeds up as we have completed the voting process on paint color scheme and are now into "full crunch" mode on the build itself. The SUPER CHEVY SHOW in Joliet is now only 45 days away!!! That means that we are going to ask some favors in priority support and handling on product/parts from some of you Team Members in the very near future.

PAINT
The votes have been cast and we have a color- RED. The voting went as follows in regards to offered color choices and paint schemes. First RED at 33.89% / Green with 18.89% / Blue and Silver both tied at 16.11% and finally Orange/Silver at 15%.

Bill Jelinek and the Team at PPG are already mixing paint to get that just right hue of RED to make Project American Heroes stand out in the crowd.

WEBSITE
We have been blogging on at www.superchevy.com almost daily with everything form news about paint choice to new companies joining up. Also added this week was a streaming video of the primer being applied to the car by Nick Jelinek.

The Gallery at www.projectamericanheroes.net has been updated with the video as well as added coverage of the build. Some of these great photos as well as more will appear in the 8 pages of Project American Heroes coverage in its first installment in the September issue of SUPER CHEVY Magazine.

NEXT STEPS
The Camaro build goes into full production mode right now. We are running an extremely tight schedule we are following for the next 45 days!

So why is Bill from Route 66 Motorsports smiling in the photo? Because like each of you, he truly loves what Project American Heroes is all about and the support it provides through the Armed Forces Foundation.

Much much more to come in the following weeks including update web site photos, videos, and our plans for the unveiling this fantastic Camaro build at the SUPER CHEVY SHOW.

Stay tuned and hang on as (BAM) we crank it up!
Thank you everyone for your support!

The build continues and the tach is now reading 4500 RPM to our finish date. Not a lot of time and the wrenches are flying with parts in house as the SUPER CHEVY SHOW in Joliet is now only 29 days away!!!

THE PAINT IS COMPLETE-
While to two included photos with this message are at the beginning of the week, the paint process is completed with graphics. I hope you agree when you look at these photos that are simply awestruck from the fantastic finish and graphics that the Route 66 Motorsports crew have laid on Project American Heroes. Guys- job well done!!

Default Project American Heroes 7-24-08 Update
Team Project American Heroes,

This is Update #8 and Route 66 Motorsports and the expert Team of our builder Bill Jelinek is literally non-stop.

UNVEILING & PROMOTIONAL EFFORTS UPDATE- The Unveiling of Project American Heroes Camaro is a mere 16 days away and while the Build Crew and cranking always installing parts, we have been developing strong interest from media and with much help from Super Chevy show Agency support, Chicagoland Speedway, and more.

VIDEO OF BARRETT-JACKSON AT SUPERCHEVY.COM
Hopefully you had an opportunity to view the sale of the 2007 Project American Heroes car. If not here is the link-

We are in the planning stages for this type of program and more for the Camaro auction that will again benefit the Armed Forces Foundation UP!

HORSEPOWER ON TAP- A quick photo of the engine build by Turn Key Engine Supply is attached. Thanks to all those companies involved with this portion of the build as the "New School" COPO 427 put out 565 HP and 545 foot pounds of torque on the dyno at Westech before dropping into the crake heading for Route 66 Motorsports! See PAH 427 LS for photo of engine (pump and pullies will change)

Great job all as that will make for one "fine & fin" ride once sitting on those DES frame rails.

Thank a veteran or serving service person today.

Default Project Americans Heroes - The Auction Is Near!
Well, the time is almost here. Only a short time remains until we see the fruits of our labor and generous financial support from all of our sponsors, our gorgeous ‘69 Camaro, put on the auction block at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Palm Beach, FL. The car is lot #369.1 and is slatted to be sold between 5:00-7:00 pm EDT on this Friday, August 10. The sale will be taped delayed on the Speed Channel from 8:00pm - 12 Midnight on the same night. Super Chevy staffers publisher Ed Zinke, editor Jim Campisano, and web editor Patrick Hill will be on hand to roll her up the ramp and Congressman Tom Rooney (R-Fla.) will speak on behalf of the Armed Forces Foundation.

We’d like to give a special mention of thanks this week to some of the project’s supporters. We were recently privileged to have the opportunity to visit K&N Engineering in California with the Project American Heroes Camaro. Performance Kit Manager Bert Heck and his team spent some time fabricating a custom air intake in their R&D facility. While the car was in their possession, they made a real nice video about the project and have it posted on their website and youtube. Take a look when you get a chance http://www.knfilters.com/video/American_Heroes.htm

The folks at Detroit Speed and Barrett-Jackson have also been very gracious to us with their website promotions of the project.

Our brothers at Hot Rod magazine will again be donating free registration for the Hot Rod Power Tour to the new owner of the Camaro. Roger Gustin of Auto Star productions will be doing the same for his Super Chevy Show series. And lastly, Dave Wilson from Intercity Lines will be donating free transportation of the car to the new owner’s home anywhere in the continental 48 states.

Great stuff from great folks in our wonderful industry!

So say a pray or cross your fingers or both in hopes that the wallets will open wide for the Armed Forces Foundation and our servicemen and women.

And as always, a huge thanks goes out to all of you from all of us here at Super Chevy.

Default Project American Heroes Sold!
After over a year of hard work by numerous sponsors and the dedicated editorial staff of Super Chevy magazine, the Project American Heroes 1969 Camaro was sold today at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Palm Beach, Florida. When the frenzy subsided, the smoke cleared, and the gavel sounded, the stunning custom red beauty garnished $500,000. Unbelievable!! Thank you to Dave Parker from Los Angeles, CA, the new owner. The money was promptly handed over to the Armed Forces Foundation where they will put it to good use funding aid for our servicemen and women in need. More details to be published on www.superchevy.com once they become available. Thank you, as always, for all of your incredible support in helping this project come together and pay off to support our troops! It could not have been accomplished without you!
