I believe you are referring to the grey communication cable p/n 30104 which plugs into the handheld (9pin connector) and then to the EZ EFI main harness (3 pin weatherpack connector). This cable does have a clear wire instead of the white wire, so the red to red, black to black, and white to clear.
I believe that you have done everything you can to test on your end, So just send us the ECU, and handheld unit, and we will put them on our test vehicle and try to duplicate the problem.
