Default Cam selection for ZZ454 Crate Engine
Hi. I bought my 72 Vette with a GM crate engine in it. The guy that built the car bought a GM Marine crate engine back in 2001. It has the GM High Performance aluminum heads on the car. When I bought the car, it had a Holley 850 CFM carb, a Muncie 4-speed with a 3.36 gear in the rear end, and Hooker header/side pipes.

The engine has a Comp Cams 11-433-8 cam in it.

I have swapped out the muncie 4-speed with a TREMEC 5-speed and just recently swapped out the carb for the EZ-EFU fuel injection system.

I have not had much time for the EFI to learn and the oil pump failed. The engine has a slight knock and I will be pulling it apart to fix it.

I am not really happy with the cam, so I wanted to put a better street cam in the motor that will allow me to cruise on the interstate at about 2,000 RPM. The current cam doesn't like to idle or run very well under 2,500 RPM.

Can someone suggest a better cam to go with my set-up and take advantage of the EFI system?

I need to get this baby ready for the Hot Rod Power Tour. I will be tearing down the motor this Saturday and would love to get the cam ordered with the bearings, seals, etc.

Thanks,

I would like to see the 11-451-8 in there. That should bring the torque in about 2200 and should have a very broad power range. It is listed as a marine cam, but only because of the wider lobe sepration, which helps with the low end torque and carries the power out a little more.
