Default Circlematic powerglide questions....???
Hi all,

First post on CPG and from thumbing thru the posts looks like a great site.

My question is I purchased a U.M.P. street stock race car(85 Monte Carlo, chevy 377, TCI powerglide, race weight 32200lbs) that runs on a dirt oval(1/4 to 3/8's mile).

Unfortunately I don't have the exact model number of it right now but I do know that it is a TCI powerglide with the reverse manual valve body(P-R-N-1-2) and it is direct drive as well(no converter).

I have been told that if need to stop with the engine running I should place the transmission in "park" position vs. just bumping it into neutral. The information I was given was that leaving it in neutral while the engine is running will cause the transmission pump to burn up.

Is this true?

Thank you all for your time and information.

Andy

No, that is incorrect information. The transmission pump is pumping fluid as long as the motor is running. You can put it in Park or Neutral when you are stopped and it will not harm it.
