Default COMP Cams® Adds Sizzle To The 22nd Annual Short Track Nationals
$5,000 Gambler’s Challenge adds extra incentive to ASCS event to be held on October 29-31st in Little Rock, AR

One of the last events of the 2009 season for the Lucas Oil ASCS Dirt Series, the 22nd Annual O’Reilly Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires will pay $15,000 to win with a chance at a $5,000 bonus and $2,200 just to start the race! At the latest count, a record 112 entries representing 23 states have already been submitted for this year’s three-night Sprint car racing extravaganza, with more entrants expected.

As an extra incentive in the 2009 event, COMP Cams® and I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, AR have announced the return of the Gambler’s Challenge, in which the A-main pole sitter, or outside pole if the pole sitter declines, will have the opportunity to pull a playing card marked 4th, 6th, 8th or 10th. Whichever card the driver pulls will be his or her starting position in the 40-lap feature event. If this driver can win from the starting position that he or she draws, they will receive a $5,000 bonus. As a result of the COMP Cams® Gambler’s Challenge, a lucky driver now has a chance to win a total of $20,000 in the 22nd Annual O’Reilly Short Track Nationals finale ($15,000 to win plus the $5,000 COMP Cams® Gambler’s Challenge Bonus).

This year’s event will again feature the COMP Cams® Engine Builder of the Race promotion, in which the engine builders and drivers finishing first, second and third place will each receive COMP Cams® product certificates of $500, $250 and $100, respectively. To be eligible for all awards, including the COMP Cams® Gambler’s Challenge, racers must run COMP Cams® decals in the A-main (no exceptions). Decals will be available from track officials or from COMP Cams® technicians, who will be on hand to provide on-site racer support and interaction with the fans.

Last year’s event at I-30 Speedway attracted a record number of 108 competitors, with Kansas native Tony Bruce, Jr. becoming the event’s 15th different winner after taking a commanding lead on the restart over two-time winner Gary Wright. After having a disaster strike on the 31st lap when a cut right rear tire forced Tim Crawley to a stop in turn one, this dominant race leader became an easy decision for last year’s Hard Luck Award. Bruce joined a prestigious list of Short Track Nationals champions, including Sprint Car legends Steve Kinser and Sammy Swindell.

The 22nd Annual O’Reilly Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires starts on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 with an open practice. Racing action gets underway on Thursday, October 29 with qualifying that continues each night and the grand finale on Saturday evening. The 2009 edition of the event now pays $15,000 to win with a possible $5,000 bonus and $2,200 to start.
