With many of the nation’s top Dirt Late Model drivers on hand for the 2nd Annual Clash At The Mag at Magnolia Motor Speedway, it was three COMP Cams® customers who proved to be the cream of the crop.
Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi, is widely regarded as having one of the toughest racing surfaces in the country for drivers to tame. In fact, its infamously slick surface is commonly regarded as the “Black Ice.”
Over the course of the July 9th-10th, 2010 weekend, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) invaded the facility for the 2nd Annual Clash At The Mag, which boasted a $20,000 winner’s purse in a l00 lap feature with SPEED TV cameras filming the action. By the time the field of competitors were finished skating around the 1/3 mile oval in the 100 lap finale, it was three
COMP Cams® customers, who had found their way to the front of the pack.
Four-time LOLMDS Champion, Earl Pearson Jr., from Jacksonville, Florida, earned the pole position for the feature in his #44 Mastersbilt/Larry Wallace Racing Engine Super Late Model. After running second during the early stages of the event, Pearson powered his way to the top spot on lap 30 and never looked back en route to the win, which was his third straight on the LOLMDS tour.
Defending LOLMDS Champion and current points leader, Scott Bloomquist, from Mooresburg, Tennessee, battled throughout the top five for the entire event in his #0 Bloomquist/Roush Yates Racing Engine Super Late Model. Bloomquist mounted a late race charge to the number two spot and pressured Pearson for the last twenty laps of the event before settling for a close second place finish.
Recording a third place finish in the event was 2010 Show Me 100 Champion, Ray Cook, from Brasstown, North Carolina. Cook continues to have, arguably, the most successful season of his career in his #53 Mastersbilt/Race Engine Design Racing Engine Super Late Model.
Pearson, Bloomquist and Cook have cumulatively used COMP Cams® products to power their way to feature wins in the last five LOLMDS events, and have won an incredible fourteen of the twenty-three tour events held this season.
Not only does COMP Cams® provide a majority of the LOLMDS drivers with products that allow their engines to perform at a top level, but the company also sponsors the tour’s COMP Cams® Engine Builder of the Year Award.
