The COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel presented by Snap-On Tools drew large crowds of onlookers during the 2010 Hot Rod Power Tour
Back by popular demand, the COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel presented by Snap-On Tools was held at three stops during the recent 2010 Hot Rod Power Tour. The contest pitted two, two-man teams against each other to see who could assemble and run a Small Block Chevy engine in the quickest amount of time. After every duel, the winners each walked away with a $250 COMP Cams® gift certificate while runner-up team members each received a $100 gift certificate.
Kevin Gass and Scotty Schehan took the honors in the first duel of 2010 in Bowling Green, KY. They completely assembled their engine in 30 minutes and 15 seconds. Michael Frommholz and Michael Forchiane finished exactly one minute later at 31:15.
The following day in Chattanooga, TN, teammates Jake Kretzschmar and Arlando Johnson beat out Brad Pierson and Dave Freeman to win with a time of 32:19. This may have been the most exciting duel, as spectators watched the winning team’s carburetor catch on fire, and the second place team’s engine dropped several oil pan bolts as soon as it fired up. All in all, an interesting day at the Engine Builder Duel.
Tim Weber and Ken Ferris set a new Engine Builder Duel record on Day 3 in Birmingham, AL, by completely assembling their engine in just 26:08. That’s the fastest time by any team that has ever competed in the competition. Spectators also saw the first ever husband and wife team compete on Day 3. Danny and Lisa Morson came in a close second place and dedicated their performance to their 4-month-old twin boys.
Both exciting and informative, the COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel has been a crowd favorite at past events so after much hype, spectators were looking forward to the contest, and it didn’t disappoint. It proved to once again to be a big hit during the 2010 Hot Rod Power Tour. Stay tuned to see when the COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel presented by Snap-On Tools will be coming to a city near you.
