Default Dual Wide Band Won't talk to PC
I have a dual wideband unit with the RPM module. No matter what i do I cannot get it to flash the firmware into the main unit.

My laptop is one I use for tuning all the time and I tested it on an autronic ECU and innovate A/F meter no worries. Plug it into the FAST unit and I get nothing.

I followed the flash instructions and when I get to the step where I need to turn on the wideband unit and it just brings up the blue startup screen on the unit as if it were operating normally. It should stay blank and the progress bar on the PC should show the firmware loading.

I also downloaded the logging software and tried to download a log from the unit. It just came up telling me it can't find the meter.

I tried every com port number then installed the USB adapter which gave me an additional com port and still nothing.

I thought the cable might be broken but I tested it and there is three wires used and they are all continous from end to end.

Is there any way I can check whether the unit is faulty?

Is there some trick step I am missing that is not in the manual?

Also is there a pin out diagram for the cable so I can check that?

The cable I have is wired
Female 1 - Male 2
Female 2 - Male 9
Female 5 - Male 6

Female is the PC connection end and Male is the Wideband connection end.

I am in Australia so is there a local agent who can test the unit?

This would be much easier to troubleshoot over the telephone.

The most common problem I see is the PC not recognizing the USB to serial adapter properly. Or many times you think the driver is loaded, but for some reason it didn't load properly.

What I would do is go the the Device Manager on the PC and look under Ports(COM & LPT) you should see something like: Prolific USB to Serial Bridge(COM x)

The COM number out to the side will tell what you should set the com number to the software to.

If you do not see "Prolific" or if there is a yellow exclamation point under Ports, then the driver is not properly installed.

If you are running a newer version of Windows like version 7 or the later Vista Service Packs, then you should go to the download section and download the latest driver.

I do not personally know of someone in Australia that you could take it to.

Let me know what happens.

Ended up being the serial cable wired incorrectly that came with the RPM module. Fixed that and it installed the software straight away. I am now installing this unit in my car and need to know if i can run it on 16 volt?
