Raybestos ’32 Roadster Pickup Build Can Be Followed At RaybestosGarage.com

McHenry, IL (June 21, 2010) The star of this show-stopping sweepstakes campaign is a one-of-a-kind Raybestos ’32 Roadster Pickup. The promotion has been developed to help engage DIYers, hotrodders, and race fans in celebrating the racing heritage and performance of Raybestos Brakes and Chassis Parts. From now until August 31, 2010, consumers can enter to win a Raybestos ’32 Roadster Pickup -- built by Troy Ladd of Hollywood Hot Rods in Burbank, California. The traditionally inspired hot rod combines retro styling with modern technology and know-how.

“One of the most exciting elements of this promotional campaign is our new website: Talking Shop at RaybestosGarage.com,” says Josh Russell, Dir. Sales & Marketing at Affinia Global Brake and Chassis, manufacturer of Raybestos Brakes & Chassis. “The site is interconnected to new Raybestos brand presence on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flickr. This leap into social media provides our customers and fans with a direct connection with the Raybestos brand, our builder partners, our racing partners, and fellow gearheads.”

RaybestosGarage.com offers technicians, countermen and hotrodders a behind-the-scenes view of the custom build. Visitors get the inside scoop on everything from design inspiration to frame & suspension fabrication, powerplant selection, brake package design, and the custom paint & finishing work that will prepare the hot rod for its television, magazine, and SEMA debut. The website will feature weekly build progress updates, videos, photos, posts, and other content. Visitors are welcome to comment on the project, ask questions, and even offer advice via Twitter and Facebook. And of course, they can enter online to win the hot rod itself.

DIYers and repair shop customers may also visit any participating Raybestos dealers – either online or in their hometown – for a chance to win the grand prize. With a minimum $25 purchase of Raybestos® Professional Grade or Advanced Technology brake pads, rotors or wheel hubs, or Raybestos® Professional Grade Chassis products, consumers can redeem a printed promotional form (or tear-off card from the shop’s counter-card display) to receive a FREE Raybestos / Hollywood Hot Rods t-shirt. Redemption for the t-shirt also serves as an automatic entry into the sweepstakes for the Raybestos ’32 Roadster Pickup.

Ladd and Russell have collaborated with some of the industry’s top designers, artists and performance parts brands to make this project happen. Acclaimed designer Murray Pfaff of Pfaff Designs in Royal Oak Michigan provided the photo realistic artwork to help guide the build.

Hot rod illustrator Jeff Norwell completed exclusive artwork for a limited-edition tin tacker sign and the Raybestos Brakes t-shirts offered during the promotion. Final paint and finishing will be handled by self-proclaimed “Real Hotrodder of the Midwest” and ace painter Tracy Tichenor, owner of T&R Auto Body in Hammond, Indiana. Tichenor is an expert bodyman and custom builder; seen often on the TV series Overhaulin’. Russell said, “The collaboration of Midwest and West Coast hot rod builders, designers, and brake & chassis experts is creating a lot of buzz among hot rod enthusiasts. The RaybestosGarage.com website provides a neat opportunity to watch the gurus at work, follow the build progress, and share observations and opinions with other like-minded fans.”

The Raybestos Roadster Pickup has been called the “ultimate parts hauler & shop truck.” Inspiration for the hot rod’s design is as if it was the Raybestos factory parts truck & show car in 1963, delivering brakes for the Indy roadsters up and down Gasoline Alley – as Indy Cars were in fact running Raybestos brake pads at the Indianapolis 500 throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Design cues are pulled from open-wheeled Indy roadsters and Sprint cars of that era. The Raybestos RPU will feature:
•	1932 Brookville Steel RPU body and custom fabricated box (BrookvilleRoadster.com)
•	From Ford Racing, the all new 5.0L Ti-VCT “Coyote” V-8 engine from the upcoming 2011 Ford Mustang – deconstructed and re-dressed with vintage accessories to resemble the iconic 1963 Ford 427ci SOHC race motor (FordRacingParts.com)
•	Custom vintage-style stack fuel injection setup from Hilborn (HilbornInjection.com)
•	A F.A.S.T. engine management system for modern reliability (FuelAirSpark.com)
•	Tremec 5-speed manual gearbox (FordRacingParts.com)
•	Aluminum quick change rear axle
•	Complete Raybestos Brakes package (Raybestos.com)
•	Wilwood Engineering racing pedal assembly with balance bar (Wilwood.com)
•	Bias ply Firestone Indy roadster period correct tires from Coker Tire (Coker.com)
•	One-of-a-kind custom gauge cluster by Redline Gauge Works (RedlineGaugeWorks.com)
•	Custom shifter, linkage, pedals and assembly by Gennie Manufacturing (GennieShifter.com)
•	“Lakes” style headers will be handmade by Hollywood Hot Rods, with oval cones, fabricated from polished stainless steel components provided by Megs Exhaust Builders Warehouse (ConeEng.com)
•	WIX oil and fuel filters (WixFilters.com)
•	Traditional style tuck & roll interior
•	Powder coating, metal coating, and media blasting work by Pacific Coast Powder Coating (PacificCoastPowderCoating.net)
•	C&R Racing custom built aluminum radiator (CRracing.com)
•	SATA spray equipment (sata.com/USA)
•	PPG automotive paints (ppg.com)

TCI® Offers Active Military Discount

TCI® shows appreciation for members of the United States Armed Services with special Active Military Discount

After being a proud sponsor of Project American Heroes III presented by Super Chevy magazine, TCI® will continue to show appreciation for American service men and women by offering a special active military discount on all TCI® products.

With Project American Heroes, TCI® donated a 6x Six-Speed Automatic Transmission for the restoration of a 1970 Chevelle. Once the car was fully restored and tricked out, it was auctioned off with proceeds going to the Armed Forces Foundation. As an extension of using automobiles to help members of the armed services, TCI® wants to give directly to current servicemen by offering a special discount on all TCI® products, available to the brave men and women who are currently defending our nation.

TCI® understands that many servicemen are gearheads who relax by working on their cars, and others just need replacement parts to keep their current vehicle running. As a way of saying thank you for their service, TCI® will make it easier for our nation’s heroes to get the parts they need.

Any active member of the United States Armed Forces may take advantage of this discount. However, he or she must call TCI® directly to do so; the offer is not available online or through third party retailers. Simply call the toll free number at 1-888-776-9824 and have your active military ID ready.

New 2011 Ford GT500 Videos Released

Doubtless, you've been hearing about how much better the 2011 Shelby GT500 is than the previous version. An all-new aluminum block takes over a hundred pounds off the front end, while adding another 10 HP. This brings the total to 550... a number that anybody will find hard to ignore.

A part of that weight reduction comes from eliminating conventional cast iron cylinder liners in the aluminum engine block. Using a process called Plasma Transferred Wire Arc, a composite coating of iron and iron oxide is applied to the cylinder bores. At 150 microns thick - about .0059" or the thickness of two pieces of paper - the coating offers improved performance and durability, as well as reduced friction and better heat transfer than the conventional iron liners.

Ford has released some B-roll for you to check out. Can't wait to hear the new exhaust note on the 2011 Shelby GT500? Here's a teaser to keep your interest. Just imagine the potential of this car with a few COMP Performance Group upgrades......

Dirt Sports Magazine Names Andy McMillin 2009 “Driver of the Year”

February 4, 2009 (Long Beach, Calif.) – On the eve of trying to repeat his overall victory at the Best-in-the Desert (BITD) Parker 425 desert race, defending event champion Andy McMillin capped off his monumental 2009 season by being honored by Dirt Sports Magazine and Ryan Communications Group (RCG) as Dirt Sports’ “2009 Driver of the Year.” The third generation driver took top honors in this year’s selection, but was also joined by fellow racers Carl Renezeder as “2009 Short Course Racer of the Year,” Brad Lovell as “2009 Rock Racer of the Year,” and Jeff Ward, who took the magazine’s “2009 Rookie of the Year” title.

Last season, McMillin, co-driver and father Scott McMillin, and his entire San Diego, California-based McMillin Racing team not only captured the BITD Class 1400 championship for unlimited trucks, but also posted overall winning performances at some of the sport’s biggest races including the 2009 BITD Parker 425, the SNORE Mint 400, the BITD Las Vegas to Reno, the SCORE Baja 1000 and the season finale BITD Henderson Desert Classic. The team’s campaign was supported by McMillin Homes, Ford, BFGoodrich, Fox Shox, Eibach, KMC Wheels, K&N, Vision-X and VP Fuel.

In tonight’s award ceremony, McMillin’s dramatic cover shoot by artist Tim Mantoani was unveiled on the newly-printed February, 2010 issue. As part of his award, the happy winner was also awarded a custom-made presentation box by Oakley featuring a specially engraved watch and high performance sunglasses; along with a one-of-a-kind Oakley “Driver of the Year” jacket.

“Most years, choosing our ‘Driver of the Year’ is a difficult one because of the incredible competition across our magazine’s core coverage of desert, short course and rock racing” explained Marty Fiolka, group editorial and marketing director, Ryan Communications Group. “But in consideration of Andy McMillin’s watershed season in 2009, this year our top honoree was a clear one; especially after Andy, and his father Scott, won the prestigious Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 and then the BITD Class 1400 Championship.”

In choosing each of their past winners, the panel of judges made their final determinations based upon drivers posting a championship performance, their ability to represent both the sport and their sponsors in a professional manner, and their ability to rise above the competition in a significant manner.

The 22-year old McMillin adds his name to an illustrious group of past honorees that represent some of the sport’s best, including the late Jason Baldwin (2004), Shannon Campbell (2005), Carl Renezeder (2006), and Rob MacCachren (2007). Last year, Heidi Steele made history by becoming the first female to ever win two major championships in the same season and also the first women ever to earn the prestigious “Driver of the Year” title.

“Ever since I was young I wanted to be recognized as one of the best in this sport and I have worked really hard to achieve it,” explained McMillin. “On behalf of my father, my family and the entire McMillin team, I want to thank everyone involved for making a dream really come true.”

For the first time in the award’s history, the magazine named awards the other forms of off-road motorsports not represented by the overall winner. Known as the “Dirt Sports Honors,” those chose in these categories will also receive special Oakley watches and jackets. Last season’s list include Renezeder, who claimed two championships in the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series (LOORRS), Colorado’s Brad Lovell, a rock racing veteran that also took dual titles in the W.E.Rock and XXRA series and the multi-talented Jeff Ward, who enjoyed a spectacular first season in LOORRS Unlimited 2 competition.

Battery Costs Are Likely to Limit Widespread Adoption of Electric Cars

DETROIT, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Although electric-car battery costs are expected to fall sharply over the coming decade, they are unlikely to drop enough to spark widespread adoption of fully electric vehicles without a major breakthrough in battery technology, according to a new study by The Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

The study, released today, concludes that the long-term cost target used by many carmakers in planning their future fleets of electric cars—$250 per kilowatt-hour (kWh)—is unlikely to be achieved unless there is a major breakthrough in battery chemistry that substantially increases the energy a battery can store without significantly increasing the cost of either battery materials or the manufacturing process.

"Given current technology options, we see substantial challenges to achieving this goal by 2020," said Xavier Mosquet, Detroit-based leader of BCG's global automotive practice and a coauthor of the study. "For years, people have been saying that one of the keys to reducing our dependency on fossil fuels is the electrification of the vehicle fleet. The reality is, electric-car batteries are both too expensive and too technologically limited for this to happen in the foreseeable future."

Most electric cars in the new decade will use lithium-ion batteries, which are lighter and more powerful than the nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries used today in hybrids like the Toyota Prius. Citing the current cost of similar lithium-ion batteries used in consumer electronics (about $250 to $400 per kWh), many original-equipment manufacturers (OEMs) hope that the cost of an automotive lithium-ion battery pack will fall from its current price of between $1,000 and $1,200 per kWh to between $250 and $500 per kWh at scaled production. BCG, however, points out that consumer batteries are simpler than car batteries and must meet significantly less demanding requirements, especially regarding safety and life span. So actual battery costs will likely be higher than what carmakers predict.

Despite this cost challenge, the report projects steady growth for electric cars and batteries. Electric cars include mildandfull hybrids (like the early Toyota Prius and 2010 Ford Fusion, respectively), which combine an internal combustion engine (ICE) power train with supplementary electric motors to run the car at idle and low speeds; plug-in hybridsandrange-extended electric vehicles (such as the next-generation Prius and General Motors' Chevrolet Volt, respectively), which combine electric motors with a supplementary ICE to run the motors after the batteries have been depleted; and fully electric vehicles (like the Mitsubishi i MiEV and upcoming Nissan Leaf), which can only be recharged by plugging into the power grid.

Under the most likely scenario of the industry's evolution, BCG estimates that 26 percent of the new cars sold in 2020 in the major developed markets (China, Japan, the United States, and Western Europe)—or approximately 14 million cars—will have electric or hybrid power trains. That same year, the market for electric-car batteries in those regions will reach $25 billion.

"This burgeoning market will be about triple the size of today's entire lithium-ion-battery market for consumer applications such as laptop computers and cell phones," said Mosquet, noting that the forecast applies to all the components sold to OEMs for battery packs.

The report, titled Batteries for Electric Cars: Challenges, Opportunities and the Outlook to 2020, is a companion piece to a report BCG published in January 2009 on the future of alternative power-train technologies (The Comeback of the Electric Car? How Real, How Soon, and What Must Happen Next). The new report's findings are based on a detailed analysis of existing e-car battery research and interviews with more than 50 battery suppliers, auto OEMs, university researchers, start-up battery-technology companies, and government agencies across Asia, the United States, and Western Europe. The report also draws on the firm's extensive work with auto OEMs and suppliers worldwide.

To show how battery costs will decline, BCG uses the example of a typical supplier of lithium-nickel-cobalt-aluminum (NCA) batteries—one of the most prominent technologies for automotive applications. BCG's analysis suggests that by 2020, the price that OEMs pay for NCA batteries will decrease by 60 to 65 percent, from current levels of $990–$1,220 per kWh to $360–$440 per kWh. So the cost for a 15-kWh NCA range-extender pack would fall from around $16,000 to about $6,000. The price to consumers will similarly fall, from $1,400–$1,800 per kWh to $570–$700 per kWh—or $8,000–$10,000 for the same pack.

"Even in 2020, consumers will find this price of $8,000 to $10,000 to be a significant part of the vehicle's overall cost. They will carefully evaluate the cost savings of driving an electric car versus an ICE-based car against the higher up-front cost," explained Massimo Russo, a Boston-based partner and coauthor of the report. "It will be a complex purchase decision involving an evaluation of operating costs, carbon benefits, and potential range limitations, as well as product features."

Beyond costs, other key challenges facing the electric-car battery market are energy storage capacity, charging time, and infrastructure needs. BCG believes that pending a major breakthrough, batteries will continue to limit the driving range of fully electric vehicles to some 250–300 kilometers (about 160–190 miles) between charges. As a result, fully electric vehicles that are as convenient as ICE-based cars—meaning that they can travel 500 kilometers (312 miles) on a single charge and can recharge in a matter of minutes—are unlikely to be available for the mass market by 2020.

Of the roughly 14 million electric cars forecast to be sold in 2020 in China, Japan, the United States, and Western Europe, BCG projects that some 1.5 million will be fully electric, 1.5 million will be range extenders, and 11 million will be a mix of hybrids.

"In view of the need for a pervasive infrastructure for charging or swapping batteries, the adoption of fully electric vehicles in 2020 may be limited to specific applications, such as commercial fleets, commuter cars, and cars that are confined to a prescribed range of use," the report concludes.

Last Of A Dying Breed: The Final Pontiac G8 GXP

As we bid adieu to the last vestiges of 2009, so do we leave behind numerous great cars and brands. The greatest loss is Pontiac, and there are less than 1,000 of the former performance brand’s cars left for sale across the country. GM has launched a fire sale to eliminate the last of their Pontiacs and Saturns, including the venerable G8 performance sedan.

According to Jalopnik and Autotrader, there is only one Pontiac G8 GXP left in the whole country, surely making it worth a few bucks more than the average G8.

This final Pontiac G8 GXP is sitting on the dealer lot of Pearson Buick Pontiac GMC in Sunnyvale, California. The list price for this fully-loaded sedan is $46,565, which gets you a 6.2 liter, 400 horsepower LS6 engine, a six-speed transmission, and room for five full-size adults as well as a good-sized trunk. Of course it is likely Mr. Pearson knows he has the last G8 GXP in the country…so expect to pay a good deal more than the asking price for it.

There are about 100 G8 GT’s left as well. These lesser V8 cars get a 360 horsepower 6.0 liter engine and can still make the sprint from 0-60 mph in 5.3 seconds. It also costs a good deal less than the fully loaded GXP. We’ll surely see a few of these cars crossing the auction block in a few years for a good deal more than they cost, so if you got the cash, now would be a good time to get these relics of a time gone past.

As with every racing off-season, we are eager to hear new announcements in regards to what will take place in the 2010 racing season and the NHRA has enlightened us with some big news. The NHRA with the assistance of Stephen Pullin and Jack Schaeffer (Producers of the television show “Pinks”) have announced their agreement to produce media properties – which will consist of unique television programs, as well as new events and racing programs that will reach beyond what the NHRA currently offers.

Their first endeavor is entitled “NHRA Unleashed” which currently consists of a 4-race schedule. To see the official announcement visit NHRA.com.

While we won’t see any flame-breathing, nitro-methane drinking top fuel rails at any of these events, what we will see is some of the best door-slammer racers from all across the country flocking to these events to partake in many classes from Outlaw 10.5 to 13-second street cars. All these races will be conducted in a heads-up style with no index racing here. All classes will be competing for the legendary Wally trophy. A few exhibition style runs are believed to also be in the works for these events. The current NHRA Unleashed schedule is listed as:

• June 11-13: Atlanta Dragway, Atlanta
• Aug. 6-8: O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis, Indianapolis
• Sept. 10-12: National Trail Raceway, Hebron, Ohio
• Nov. 5-7: Gainesville Raceway, Gainesville

Not only will there be exciting action on the track, there will also be everything from swap-meets, car shows, and even an autocross. The NHRA plans to announce more exciting details later in the month as we near closer to the also highly-anticipated Winternationals. What will truly drive these events are the grass-roots racers which are finally getting the widespread recognition they deserve. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new program.

Dearborn, Mich. — Jamie Allison, a 22-year Ford veteran with experience in engineering, product planning and marketing, has been named director, Ford North America Motorsports, effective January 1, 2010, it was announced today.

Allison, who most recently has been Ford Performance Group Manager, will replace current director Brian Wolfe, who has been named to a new position in global product development by Derrick Kuzak, group vice president, Ford Global Product Development and Tony Brown, group vice president, Ford Global Purchasing.

“I’m excited about the challenge of helping take Ford’s racing program forward,” said Allison, who has been part of the Ford Racing management team for just over six years. “For a kid who wanted to work for Ford Motor Company, to help carry forward a tradition that Henry Ford himself started is something special.

“Brian Wolfe really made a great difference in the program in his time as director, opening up so many opportunities to reach out, not just the professional racers, but to the grassroots and sportsman racers as well. He installed a philosophy that we were going to be ‘racer-friendly’ in all that we do, and we as a team will carry that forward.”

Allison joined Ford Motor Company in 1987, after graduating from the University of Michigan-Dearborn with an electrical engineering degree. He later returned to earn a MBA in marketing from the same university.

He began his career at Ford in product engineering, and spent the first 10 years of his career working within engineering and product planning.

In 1997, Allison made the transition to product marketing, and held a series of marketing jobs within the company before joining Ford Racing Technology in 2003, where he has overseen the Ford Racing Performance Parts business, as well as North America Motorsports Marketing.

Under Allison’s leadership, the Ford Racing Performance Parts business was transformed by offering ready-to-race vehicles for production-based racing, Performance Packs and new vehicle modifications for enthusiasts. The team also partnered with Shelby Autos on the launch of exciting new Shelby performance vehicles, and created the Ford Performance Group as an outreach to Ford Clubs—all of which reinvigorated Ford's support of performance enthusiasts.

Wolfe became director, Ford North America Motorsports, in July 2008, and has had a major impact on the program since then.

Ford captured Mustang championships this season in NHRA Funny Car, Grand-Am Koni and SCCA World Challenge GT, as well as Ford’s first Daytona 500 win since 2000.

Under Wolfe’s direction, the company also launched the NASCAR Nationwide Series Mustang, secured official vehicle sponsorships with the NHRA and American Drag Racing League, and assisted with bringing the European Fiesta to a successful racing debut in North America, with a second-place at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, and a 1-3-4 finish in its X Games rally competition debut.

Wolfe opened the door to additional grassroots opportunities for Ford in circle track racing and road racing, but may be best known as being the man to help bring the Cobra Jet Mustang sportsman drag racing car back to the track after 40 years, along with Ford’s re-entry into NHRA Pro Stock.

The 2008 Cobra Jet won its initial outing at Pomona in February 2009, and went on to set records across the country. A 2010 version of the Cobra Jet will go into production in January, with all 50 being sold in advance of production.

Camaro Tops Popularity And Sales Charts

For those of us in the automotive community, 2009 is a landmark year for both good and bad reasons. Remaining optimistic, perhaps the biggest boon to gearheads has been the return of the Camaro, a much-hyped muscle car from GM that provides fast, affordable fun. Even without a huge marketing campaign, the Camaro has surged in both popularity and sales.

Camaro5 reports that the Camaro tops Yahoo’s Most Popular Cars of 2009 list, and it continues to beat the Mustang in monthly sales.

Now the Camaro had some stiff competition on the popularity chart, including its cross town rival the Ford Mustang, which was number three on the list. But the Camaro beat every other vehicle as the ‘most searched for car on the Internet.’ Much of the marketing for the Camaro has been viral or through word of mouth, as GM has avoided too many commercials or over saturation of the muscle machine.

But the only numbers that matter are sales numbers, and the Camaro is mopping up there too. To date, over 54,000 Camaros have been delivered to customers. In the month of November alone 6,687 Camaros were delivered, twice the number of Mustangs. This was an off-year for the Mustang though, and next year the sales race promises to be tighter as the Blue Oval recently announced a more powerful and fuel efficient V6 engine for its pony car starting in 2011. The future looks good for American muscle right now.

2010 Mustang Nationwide Car Unveiled

A new chapter of Mustang racing rolled out yesterday at the Roush Fenway Racing headquarters in Concord, North Carolina. Ford Racing teamed up with Roush Fenway Racing to unveil the No. 16 Con-way Freight Mustang Nationwide Series car with driver Colin Braun.

Ford announced in July that Mustang would compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series beginning in July 2010, with a limited rollout of four races. Ford "leaked" a digital rendition of the car a few months ago and had Mustang enthusiasts abuzz, debating the pro's and con's of entering the iconic Ford nameplate in NASCAR. The Mustang will replace the Fusion as Ford’s entry in the Nationwide series. NASCAR’s new Nationwide Car of Tomorrow begins racing at Daytona International Speedway next July and will go full time in 2011. While the Mustang Nationwide car does not have any factory stamped sheet metal, the graphic decal design of the Mustang distinguishes it from cars currently running in NASCAR.

An up-close look at the car reveals Mustang door outlines, door handle decals, license plates, and the GT faux gas cap on the rear of the car. The Nationwide Mustang uses a rear spoiler and a front "lip," rather than the splitter and rear wing used on Nextel Cup cars.

Today marked the first time that the NASCAR Mustang was seen in public. Several Charlotte area Mustang owners attended the unveiling and were excited to see Ford return to NASCAR with a true V8 powered rear-wheel drive model.

Colin Braun, 21, a native of Ovalo, Texas, drove the new Mustang at the reveal and will make the move from the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series to a full-time Nationwide program next season. Colin has been part of the Roush-Fenway/Ford Racing driver development program and won the 2008 Truck Series Rookie of the Year award.

Mustang has a storied history in motorsports dating back to 1964, and can claim more than 2,000 professional race wins worldwide. This will be the Mustang’s first entry into the NASCAR series. “This truly marks the start of the next era of Mustang racing,” said Brian Wolfe, director, Ford North America Motorsports. “We fully expect this Mustang, with drivers like Colin behind the wheel, to start to enjoy the kind of success so many other Mustang racing programs have enjoyed throughout the last four decades. Mustang is a proud and historic brand for Ford. This is a car born to race, and NASCAR is the next logical step for its racing pedigree.”

Mustang currently competes professionally in the NHRA Funny Car and Pro Stock divisions and other series like the Grand-Am KONI Challenge, SCCA World Challenge, and the Mustang Challenge Series. In addition to these series, thousands of Mustangs see action by grassroots racers at road courses and drag strips all across America.

Jack Roush was at the reveal and spoke about his longtime association with the Mustang. “I have been a Mustang owner and enthusiast for many years myself so this is an exciting day to see this car racing in NASCAR,” said Roush. “My teams have won several road racing championships over the years in Mustangs, and I look forward to winning more with Colin, Carl (Edwards) and Ricky (Stenhouse, Jr.). With the continued support of Ford and Con-way Freight we plan to give Colin the opportunity for his second Rookie of the Year title in NASCAR, and ultimately a Nationwide Series championship.”

Ford NASCAR Nationwide teams have already started building the Mustang Nationwide Car of Tomorrow for competition next year. We know that Chevrolet will field the Impala SS and Toyota will enter a Camry as their 2010 Nationwide COT. Word on Nationwide COT plans from Dodge is that the Challenger will be ready next year. Let's hope that in the near future, all Nationwide series cars will be "Pony Cars" from the the big three domestic manufacturers. "It's been a long project that we've worked on, changing the identity of the Nationwide Series, giving us our own look and our own unique competition out on the race track," said Nationwide Series Director Joe Balash. "We take a big step in that direction with the launch of the Mustang car for the Nationwide series."

Changes Afoot For 2010 Camaro

The Camaro has been in production for less than a year, but it has already seen a special edition and plenty of speculation. Other than a few hiccups with rubbing battery cables and potential transmission troubles, the Camaro has had a pretty smooth launch. The car is bound to evolve, however, and it is already shedding a few parts it started out with.

According to Camaro5, a few parts and options are being shelved for the foreseeable future.

The biggest news is the end of the Transformers Edition Camaro. This was the first special edition for the Camaro, and it really lacked any form of advertising as it was launched in the midst of GM’s bankruptcy. The Transformers Edition was basically all badges and wheels and emblems, and the film gave the car an extra bit of exposure. You have until January 12th to order a Transformers Edition Camaro before production ends forever (or at least until Transformers 3).

As for other cancellations, Aqua Blue Metallic will no longer be an order option. As of September 23rd, Aqua Blue was the second least popular choice after White, which was not an option from the onset of production. Just 1,415 of the 50,000 some-odd Camaros sold were Aqua Blue, or about 4.0% of total production (the most popular color by far was black, with 25% of the share).

The high wing spoiler option will also be canceled. The only explanation is that there were a number of issues with the spoiler. The high wing will be replaced in 2011 with a new version. We will no doubt that we'll see a bevy of new special editions in the future.

Win a Custom Crate Engine and Other Performance Automotive Parts with the Motorator Crew Chief Challenge Contest

MARINA DEL REY, CA, September 15, 2009 – Motorator.com, the first community dedicated to performance automotive enthusiasts, has launched the Motorator Crew Chief Challenge - a chance to win a custom crate engine and other high-end performance parts.

At Motorator, we believe stock isn't an option. That's why we created the Motorator Crew Chief Challenge, a contest allowing enthusiasts to show off their automotive knowledge and compete for “MotoRating” points by uploading videos, asking and answering tech questions, and receiving votes for their best content contributions. The person with the most MotoRating points will win the Grand Prize, and three runners-up will win First Place Prizes.

One Grand Prize winner will be given their choice of either a Chevy, Ford or Mopar crate engine, custom-built and dyno tested. These engines are not for the weak of heart! They feature the finest performance parts including: a Holley Carburetor, Holley Fuel Pump, CNC Ported Aluminum Avenger Cylinder Heads, Weiand Intake Manifold, COMP Cams “K-Kit” Valvetrain and a TCI Balancer. We’ll even throw in a set of Hooker Headers!

That’s not all. Three runners-up will have a chance to win one First Place Prize, either a Hotchkis Sway Bar Kit, Digital Designs Car Audio System or Spectre Cold-Air Intake Kit!

“This is the ultimate contest for true performance-driven enthusiasts,” said Matthew D’Andria, Founder and CEO of Motorator. “The Crew Chief Challenge is for the DIY diehard looking to finish their Hot Rod project or upgrade their late model ride.”

Whether you’re into muscle cars or sport compacts, off-roading or car audio - the Motorator Crew Chief Challenge is for you.
