The New FAST™ LSXR™ Intake Manifold

The New LSXR™ Intake Manifold, a Quantum Leap In Intake Science! As engine designs evolve, many of the engine components evolve as well. For example, take the LS3 and LS7 engines produced by GM. These engines have significant design alterations, and among them is the design of the intake manifold. GM redesigned the intake manifold with a rectangular port rather than the earlier “cathedral” design. In making that move, many of the airflow dynamics changed.

When the new GM engine design made its debut, engineers at FAST™ and RHS® wasted no time in taking a look at how they could improve on the factory intake manifold design, while retaining all of the factory under-the-hood clearance and fitments.

Building on the technology of the original LSX™ Gen III three piece intake manifold, engineers tackled the redesign project using all available resources. When the enormous effort was complete, the result was the advanced LSXR™ design that is virtually a quantum leap in intake science, resulting in ground breaking performance and adaptability characteristics.

To understand how the new design delivers pioneering features and benefits, we turned to the RHS® and FAST™ design engineers for the inside story. They provided the basic details of the design process and the resulting performance enhancement achieved from the new LSXR™ intake manifold.

3D Model of the LSXR™

A Clean Slate

In previous designs, intake manifolds provided good horsepower or good torque, but never managed to maximize both at the same time. That fact obviously meant that engineers had to settle on a compromise between horsepower and torque.

To tackle this problem RHS® and FAST™ design engineers began by taking a clean slate approach to the process. With the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), they meticulously analyzed airflow dynamics. The analysis revealed critical areas for redesign, so they poured all available resources into creating a new intake manifold design.

What emerged was a blueprint that is literally the Holy Grail of intake design because it proved to be the solution to finding balance between torque and horsepower. The design resulted from intensive analysis that employed advanced reflective wave tuning science to reach the goal of maximum horsepower and torque in one intake manifold. Simply put, reflective wave tuning is the science of achieving torque and horsepower balance by designing the runner length (also known as “tuning”), diameter, taper and inlet shape right.

What engineers came up with was a unique and revolutionary runner design that is longer, yet still less restrictive, producing substantially higher torque and horsepower results. In addition to performance improvements, the new LSXR™ also has another revolutionary design feature built into the runner design.

Each individual runner is completely removable from the intake body. This innovative feature provides users the ability to easily make porting modifications to achieve additional power gains. This is a patented and cutting edge feature that’s not available in any other intake manifold.

LSXR ™ Components

From a manufacture standpoint, the LSXR™ is produced in an injection mold process using a proprietary glass reinforced nylon formula. This is an updated formula, similar to what was featured in the original LSX™, that has proven to be the perfect material for the LSXR™ intake manifold units. This advanced polymer provides significant advantages such as light weight and strength, but one of the most important features is its ability to block heat transfer. That fact is especially important because the virtual elimination of heat transfer means that the air charge stays cool, therefore contributing to improved engine performance.

Lab And Field Testing

The LSXR™ has been put through some of the most rigorous testing imaginable. In the lab, it’s been subjected to complete study both in airflow dyno analysis and engine dyno analysis. Both testing methods yielded confirmation of the design’s superior airflow and power production, showing gains of 14+ horsepower and 11 ft/lbs of torque at the flywheel over the stock intake.

In addition, the design was put through the paces at Wegner Automotive in Markesan, Wisconsin, one of the premier circle track engine building companies in the automotive aftermarket. It was also painstaking inspected and tested at the highly respected School of Automotive Machinists in Houston, Texas. Additionally, it was analyzed at the hi-tech facilities of Lingenfelter Performance Engineering in Decatur, Indiana, and Katech Inc. in Clinton Twp, Michigan.

Individual runner.

Each one of these field testing facilities gave further confirmation to the design success as well as substantiation of improved performance levels of the LSXR™.

The results of the enormous investment of time, money and resources by FAST™ and RHS® is the development of the most innovative and power producing intake manifold the industry has ever seen. The revolutionary characteristics of the LSXR™ are now the new standard of intake manifolds for LS3 and LS7 engines.

Innovator of performance EFI technology extends its line of revolutionary LSXR™ Intake Manifolds to maximize the performance of GM LS1/2/6 engines

The engineers at FAST™ teamed up with the airflow specialists at RHS™ to develop a three-piece, polymer intake manifold for cathedral port GM LS1 engines. The new LSXR™ 102mm Intake Manifold for LS1 Engines offers all of the modular advantages of removable runners, while achieving modest gains in performance over the already proven original LSX™ design.

Building upon the performance legacy of the original FAST™ LSX™ Gen III Manifold, the new LSXR™ 102mm Intake Manifold features a three-piece modular design that allows easy disassembly and porting. Extensive testing led to a runner design that is longer and less restrictive, yielding both torque and power gains over the stock intake. New to this design is the ability to remove individual runners from the manifold for modification.

The LSXR™ is constructed from a proprietary advanced polymer material which offers a host of benefits over aluminum aftermarket intakes, including lighter weight, strength and improved heat dissipating characteristics. While the LSXR™ features a 102mm air inlet that is perfectly suited for the FAST™ Big Mouth 102mm Throttle Body™, it can also be used with stock or aftermarket 90mm or 92mm throttle bodies. Other features include integrated nitrous bungs and perfect bolt-on fitment that allows the use of factory accessories without modification or clearance concerns.

FAST™ Crank Triggers

Innovator of EFI technology develops new crank triggers for Ford & Chevy applications that eliminate the possibility of inaccurate or inconsistent rpm measurement

Recently, engineers at FAST™ turned to the OEMs to see what they trust in the way of rpm-measuring crank triggers for their 400 and 500 horsepower daily drivers. Until now, flying magnetic trigger wheels with bulky inductive pickups have been used with the risk of broken mag¬nets or losing magnets at high engine rpm. Now FAST™ has a better answer.

A magnet-free device, this new piece from FAST™ includes a wheel constructed from ASTM A36 grade steel that is so strong that it only needs to be .125" thick and is virtually inde-structible. With the wheel being this thin, it not only weighs less but requires less space than competitors’ aluminum versions. And the FAST™ inductive sensor is also much smaller than others on the market and is hermetically sealed with the connector molded into the body.

The key to the crank trigger’s dependability and accuracy lies in the trigger wheel design. Rather than having added magnets, the wheel has tabs on the outer rim. These tabs are measured by the inductive sensor as the wheel revolves, which then provides data to the fuel injection and ignition systems for accurate rpm measurement. And because the tabs are a part of the single wheel unit, there is no possibility of loss or fragmentation as with the magnetic style trigger wheels.

This sensor is used by OEMs both on and inside the engine and provides long-lasting, accurate timing. Installation is straight forward, and everything required is included. For those already using the FAST™ XFI™ system, it’s a plug and play unit. In addition, it’s compatible with many other EFI systems on the market. For more information about the FAST™ Crank Trigger or any other FAST™ product, call us at 1-877-334-8355, or visit us online at www.fuelairspark.com.

Quick Summary
Product: FAST™ Crank Triggers
Part Number: #301270 (SBC 7" Balancer); #301280 (SBC 8" Balancer); #301180 (BBC 8" Balancer); #303565 (SBF 6.562" Balancer)

Features & Benefits:

FAST™ Multi-Port Retro-Fit EZ-EFI® Kit

Innovator of EFI technology extends the EZ-EFI® lineup to add multi-port fuel injected applications – including GM TPI, Ford 5.0L & other engines

Recently, engineers at FAST™ introduced the EZ-EFI®, a self-tuning fuel injection system that eliminates the need for EFI tuning experience and the use of a complicated laptop setup. And now owners of multi-port fuel injected engines, including the GM Tune Port Injection, Ford 5.0L, and other performance engines, can enjoy that same award-winning efficiency, ease-of-use and performance.

There is no limit on horsepower because the system is based on each customer’s supplied injectors; it will run up to eight high impedance injectors to support a wide range of applications, everything from street through high horsepower. This performance kit includes a self-tuning ECU, wide-band oxygen sensor (with fitting and plug), hand-held user interface, tach adapter, multi-port wiring harness and everything necessary for a quick and easy installation. Simply hook it up, answer the basic setup Wizard questions on the included hand-held display, and the system tunes itself.

This hand-held unit also provides on-board diagnostics and a “check engine” LED display for maximum safety. Should the ECU lose signal from any of the sensors, the EZ-EFI® will revert back to its engine protection “limp mode”, allowing secure engine operation using the rpm input and any functioning sensors, although it can operate on rpm input alone if necessary.

The multi-port wiring harness is pre-wired for common GM sensors and labeled for a simple installation. However, FAST™ offers a full line of compatible sensors, injectors and adapters if needed. The EZ-EFI® system must be used with a vacuum-referenced fuel pressure regulator – returnless fuel systems cannot be used. FAST™ offers an adjustable regulator that is ideally suited for use with the EZ-EFI®, as well as various fuel system kits that include the regulator. For more information about the FAST™ Multi-Port Retro-Fit EZ-EFI® Kit or any other FAST™ product, call us at 1-877-334-8355, or visit us online at www.fuelairspark.com.

Innovator of performance EFI technology extends its line of revolutionary LSXR™ Intake Manifolds to maximize the performance of GM LS3 engines

The engineers at FAST™ teamed up with the airflow specialists at RHS™ to develop a three-piece, polymer intake manifold for rectangular port GM LS3-type engines. Testing on a stock LS3 engine with a Big Mouth 102mm Throttle Body™ produced gains of up to 14+ horsepower and 11 ft./lbs. of torque at the flywheel over the stock intake.

Following the path chartered by the original FAST™ LSX™ Gen III Manifold, the new LSXR 102mm Intake Manifold features a three-piece modular design that allows easy disassembly and porting.

While the LSXR™ features a 102mm air inlet that is perfectly suited to the FAST™ Big Mouth 102mm Throttle Body™, it can also be used with stock or aftermarket 90mm or 92mm throttle bodies. Other features include integrated nitrous bungs and perfect bolt-on fitment that allows the use of factory accessories without modification or clearance concerns.

Time For A Change With The FAST EZ-EFI

FAST and Easy, The Time For EFI Conversion Has Arrived

Converting from carburetion to Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) has been the source of terror for many that wanted to make the change. That’s because it involved some complex work that almost required a Masters Degree in the science of EFI. But thanks to FAST™ engineers those days are over because the EZ-EFI™ Self-Tuning Fuel Injection System is a true plug and play system. And once installed, the tuning is remarkably simple.

There are major innovations that make EZ-EFI™ a true plug and play system and it’s engineered with simplicity in mind. Take, for example, the ground-breaking throttle body injection unit that’s engineered to be a simple bolt-on carburetor replacement. It is cast aluminum and is a total carburetor replacement package for your existing 4150-type flange carburetor manifold. It has everything required for the conversion to EFI including sensors, injectors and fuel rails.

Another big advance is the system’s self tuning capability. In the past, you needed a laptop and considerable tuning experience to make the conversion. But with the EZ-EFI™ system you just answer some basic questions on the handheld Setup Wizard and the tuning is done. It’s a simple process and once the basic programming is complete, the system fine tunes itself as you drive.

The system is all inclusive and comes with everything you’ll need to install it in only hours. Along with the throttle body and Setup Wizard hand held display, EZ-EFI™ comes with the electronic control unit (ECU), wide-band 0₂ sensor, wiring harness, RPM module, optional fuel pump kit and other assorted components.

The EZ-EFI™ system works on any engine and easily bolts-on to any 4150-type flange carbureted manifold with up to 600 horsepower. In addition EZ-EFI™ works with the original carburetor throttle linkage and is ready to accept OEM sensors.

The system can be easily installed in an afternoon and to show how the process works, Brent Casteel of King, North Carolina was enlisted to do the installation. Brent is a well-known restoration specialist and when he agreed to do the installation, he suggested his son Evan could be a part of the process. His thinking was with his son helping, it would show that installation was simple enough for a thirteen year old.

It was agreed Evan’s involvement would help demonstrate the simplicity of the process. However, it was also agreed that Brent’s direction and coaching would also be a part of the process.

The installation took place in Brent’s garage, which is fully equipped to do the job. The mechanical portions of the installation were done by both Brent and Evan, but when it came time for the programming part, thirteen year old Evan took over.

Take a look at the following pictorial and video illustrations of the installation procedure and you’ll see that making the change from carburetor to EFI is no longer a thing to be feared. As a matter of fact, the process is straight forward and especially when it comes to the programming part, it really is easy enough for a thirteen year old to do it.

[IMGLFT=The EZ-EFI™ system is being installed on a 1964 Chevelle equipped

Maximize airflow & performance of GM 4.8/5.3/6.0L cathedral port truck engines & cathedral port LS1, -2, -6 race applications where hood clearance is not a concern

From 1997 until now, GM has impressed many performance enthusiasts with its cathedral port truck engine designs. To make these designs perform even better, engineers at FAST™ have recently teamed up with the airflow specialists at RHS® to develop the all-new LSXRT™ 102mm Intake Manifold for Cathedral Port GM Truck Engines.

Following the path chartered by the original FAST™ LSX™ Gen III Manifold, the new LSXRT™ features a modular design that allows for easy disassembly and porting. Extensive testing led to a runner design which yields an incredible 36 peak horsepower gain over the stock intake, on a stock 6.0L engine with a Big Mouth 102mm Throttle Body™, with no loss in torque. And like the recently introduced LSXR™ Gen IV car manifold, this design features the ability to remove individual runners for modification.

“If you can fit this manifold, it’s the one you want to run,” said Brian Reese, Director of Engineering at FAST™. “It makes more power than any cathedral port LS manifold on the market.” The LSXRT™ is constructed from a proprietary precision injection molded polymer which offers many benefits over aluminum aftermarket intakes, including lighter weight, strength and lower heat soak propensity. While it features a 102mm air inlet that is perfectly suited for the FAST™ Big Mouth 102mm Throttle Body™, it can also be used with stock 90mm or aftermarket 92mm throttle bodies (78mm three-bolt throttle bodies require an adapter). Other features include integrated nitrous bungs and perfect bolt-on fitment that allows use of all factory accessories and OEM fuel/emission connections without modification or clearance concerns.

FAST™ fuel rail kits are required for use with this manifold, and some GM truck models may require the FAST™ 92mm or 102mm throttle body.
Installing The FAST™ Wide-Band Air/Fuel Gauge Kit

No matter if an engine is fuel injected or if it runs with a carburetor, tuning is important to assure everything is operating the way it should. The tuning process is decisive in determining that a powerplant will produce the desired power, torque and efficiency within the demands of specific applications.

With lots of tools available to the casual driver or the serious competitor, tuning tools can range from gauges to expensive analytical equipment. For most of us, having the resources for expensive tuning equipment is not an option. And for most of us, we look to more simple yet reliable ways to know an engine is tuned right.

Gauges and other similar instrumentation are one of the best ways to tell us that the engine tuning is good and operating as it should. And instrumentation generally won’t require a stimulus loan from the government to pay for it.

One especially valuable instrument to check on engine performance is an air/fuel ratio gauge. This gauge is a simple and economical way to show how an engine is working within its parameters for power. And the good news is it’s affordable.

Wide-Band Air/Fuel Gauge

A Wide-Band Air/Fuel Gauge Kit from FAST™ is the perfect source to gauge this kind of data so you can be sure the air-to-fuel ratio is correctly maintained for any given engine application. The kit has an economical and accurate 2-1/16” gauge that won’t overcrowd your instrument panel and is back-lit for easy night viewing. It’s also wired so it is powered up whenever the engine is running. Along with the gauge, the kit comes with a Bosch wide-band oxygen sensor and standalone sensor control unit that mounts easily in the interior of any vehicle.

The kit works on any engine and it comes with everything you need including the gauge, module, harness, sensor and bung. Simple to install this system is not only for serious power tuning but also ideal for monitoring the overall fuel tune of the engine no matter if it’s daily driving or performing in competition.

The installation is uncomplicated and can be accomplished in a couple of hours by the average person and the included instructions provide very clear guidance in hooking the system up. To illustrate the setup, we put the kit into a 2005 Ford Mustang GT and below is an overview of the installation steps. This overview illustrates the simplicity of installation, but you should always refer to the included instructions for complete details.

[IMGLFT=The process begins with the installation of the O2 sensor bung. The
best location is just upstream of the catalytic converter. To put the
bung in place, first an opening is made as is illustrated here.]http://www.cpgnation.com/filehost/files/8/FAST Stories/Photo%201.jpg[/IMGLFT][IMGRT=With the opening created, the bung is welded in place. If you don’t
the main sensor cable is routed it’s important that the cable and box

If you don’t

have the proper equipment to install the bung, a local muffler shop

can do it for you.]http://www.cpgnation.com/filehost/files/8/FAST Stories/Photo%202-AF.jpg[/IMGRT]

the main sensor cable is routed it’s important that the cable and box

(shown in center of the photo) are located away from spark plug

wires, distributor, ignition coil and hot engine components. This step

helps avoid any electrical interference or potential damage from heat.]http://www.cpgnation.com/filehost/files/8/FAST Stories/Photo%204.jpg[/IMGRT]

New EFI system from FAST™ features “self-tuning” mode & a host of innovative extras that make tuning experience & laptop use a thing of the past

In the past, carburetor-to-EFI conversion was no picnic. At the very least, a laptop and EFI tuning experience were mandatory. Thanks to the efforts of FAST™ engineers, those days are over. With the EZ-EFI™ Self-Tuning Fuel Injection System, the patent-pending “self tuning” technology does all the work. Simply hook it up, answer the basic setup Wizard questions on the included hand-held display, and the system tunes itself. The hand-held unit also provides on-board diagnostics and a “check engine” LED display for maximum safety. Should the ECU lose signal from any of the sensors, the EZ-EFI™ will convert to engine protection “limp mode”, allowing secure engine operation using the rpm input only.

The EZ-EFI™ is a complete, turn-key system that includes the innovative 4150 throttle body assembly with fuel injectors and billet fuel rails, micro-ECU, wide-band O2 sensor, plug and play wiring harness and all other necessary installation hardware. In addition, an EZ-EFI™ Master Kit is also available that includes all of the above components, along with the proper FAST™ Electric Fuel Pump Kit and Hose and Fitting Kit.

The FAST™ 4150 Throttle Body delivers the total package with the throttle body, appropriate fuel injectors and fuel rails. It works with the original carb-style linkage and is ready to accept all OEM sensors. Regardless of make, size or combination, this system bolts on easily to any engine with up to 600 horsepower that uses a 4150 flange carburetor – no manifold replacement needed.
