Been reading the thread on ' Eating fuel pumps ', and noticed today mine is makeing a strange noise from when it was installed new.

Checked whilst idleing and stays steady 43psi.

Problem is, can't see what its at on road run.

Could this be a contrubition to my probs.

Ian

If pressure is ok at idle then a damaged pump would only show at higher revs and you would get an injector limit fault.

Shot a timing light at it today Matt. Timing should be 17 at 900 rpm.
I got about 6!!!
reset it and got a much steadier idle once TPS etc readjusted to suit.
Couldn't drive coz of very heavy rain. But I would guess that that was my problem.

Let me know what happens.

This is crazy!

You could have found the problem like TWO WEEKS ago!

I am just ribbing you a little.

Hopefully that does fix your problem. Let us know

You are right Matt. I don't understand why when I changed the inlet manifold I marked the position of distributor body and rotor. When I put it back in it lined up exactly to both marks. Anyway I need to drive it now. Just waiting for the rain to stop. I guess timing could have been way out all along. Looking forward to smooth running and more power!!!!

Well idle is a lot smoother and does not hunt But engine will not free rev from low revs it just dies. Car still jumps like a Kangaroo under 3000 rpm but is fantastic above that. timing 17 deg at 900 36 at 3000 as per American Speed dyno sheet.
Should I try changing accel fuel? I have left it at zero until now. idle af 13.5 cruise af 14.0

Accel fuel now reduced to -2 for a great improvement in acceleration especially from low revs. I guess Kangaroo hoping is just the result of large cam overlap and will not go away.

Now that you mention that, it does make sense. You have port injection now, right? That seems to want less accel fuel vs. throttle body injection. With port injection, the fuel has a much shorter path to follow before entering the cylinder. Which I believe gives it less of a chance to condense and stick to the inside of the manifold/runners when the throttle opens quickly and manifold pressure jumps up. So with more of the regular fuel getting into the cylinder, less accel fuel is needed. It is a Monday morning, but I think that's right. I suspect your results will be pretty typical. A Ford Coyote 5.0L was dynoed with EZ-EFI and it liked having the accel fuel cranked down a good ways.

Hm that explains it very well. I was trying to come to a conclusion that explains the difference between settings required with throttle body and port injection

Put my car on rolling road dyno at weekend. Got 543hp at rear wheels! No wonder it won't cruise under 3000rpm must have a big cam in it!!!!
