Default EZ-EFI Race Only questions
Hi all,
I'm currently running a 468 cube BBC with a tunnel ram and 2 dominators in my S-10 bracket car. . runs 9.2s @145ish mph.

I'm thinking about changing this to an EFI system and I like the sound of the EZ-EFI self learning capabilities.

I have a few questions though on how well it will work on a race only vehicle.

Firstly will 1/4 mile passes present long enough data for the computer to actually learn anything? I realise the computer is mainly designed for street applications where the car is driven for moderate or longer periods. Part throttle drivability isn't a major issue in the car as it's race only, but the WOT program needs to be right.

Secondly, will things like the 2 step rev limit on launch cause problems? As the rev limit is basically a missfire will the computer read this as a too rich/too lean situation and change fueling accordingly? This could cause problems with bogging and hesitations when the car comes off the 2 step.

Thirdly will the self learning and self calibrating nature of the system make for more consistent performances in changing atmospheric conditions? ie will the system compensate as the air gets better or worse, cooler or warmer etc and change the tune to (hopefully) make the car more consistent then the carbys are in changing conditions?

Lastly is there or will there be available software to allow the system to work with alcohol rather then petrol fuels? We are looking at building a bigger cube bottom end for next season and possibly making the change to methanol. Can the EZ-EFI bodies be ordered with alky injectors and can the computer work with alky fuel?

Thanks for any advice,

Ryan.

I take it that you are looking at the dual quad setup.

Yes the EZ EFI will sample enough data to tune itself during a 1/4 pass. It will sample enough on the engine Dyno and that is quicker. What you will have to remember is the engine will have to be warmed up before your run to get it out of cold start and into learn mode.

The two step will make the Ecu think it's lean because of the misfire and it will add fuel to compensate. This shouldn't provide any kind of bog but might make the car leave a little lazy.

Some of the sensors compensate for changing weather. The air temp, water temp, map and o2 will all help. What you really need is the baro sensor that the XFI uses. That will change for altitude.

There has been talk about an E85 version but I am not sure if you will see it. Alcohol I doubt it.

As you correctly pointed out, the system wasn't originally intended for racing applications. But there is at least one dual quad system that has been raced with good results. There has also been testing of some race oriented features. No formal plans for those features yet.

EZ-EFI actually does sample baro pressure. It runs in "Load Indexed Speed Density" like the XFI can.

I agree alcohol is not likely any time soon.
