Inaugural test session at Memphis Motorsports Park brings out an impressive group of XFI™-equipped race cars to work with FAST™ engineers
The FAST™ XFI™ Engine Management System is one of the most popular units on the market, but learning to get the most from all of its race capabilities can be a challenge. On August 4, FAST™ staged the first “FAST™ Track Day” and invited a limited group of XFI™-equipped race teams out to the Memphis Motorsports Park to learn more about this cutting edge engine management system. High on the priority list for the FAST™ staff was helping the participants fine tune the relatively-new Intelligent Traction Control™ feature. Facing 100-degree heat and a slippery track, traction control was at a premium as the teams put their cars to the test. Beyond traction control, the FAST™ technical staff spent the day helping the racers maximize a variety of advanced features such as internal data logging, digital dash and high-end engine tuning.
Brian Reese, Director of Engineering for the COMP Performance Group™ said “This was a chance to get away from distractions and do some focused testing and training with the product in a real world environment. We brought out our top technicians and engineers to work with some of the best teams in the country that are running our XFI™ system. There were some very impressive cars that came out to play and some real learning that took place with both the racers and our staff, who had a chance to see the product in action and the challenges our customers are facing. On one of the test vehicles, over the course of the day, we were able to improve his times by almost three seconds in the quarter mile by improving the tuning and dialing in the Intelligent Traction Control.”
Among the cars, tuners, and shops tackling the quarter mile were teams from Hartline Performance, EB3 Motorsports, Delk Performance, Imagine Injection, BB&T Racing, Motorvation, Young’s Performance, and Spectacle Solutions. Engineers from another COMP Performance Group™ company, TCI®, were also on hand to discuss and provide tech support for the TCI® line-up of transmissions, converters and accessories. Highlighted by some sub-eight second quarter mile performances, it was an impressive, low pressure but highly beneficial day for all and is expected to be restaged at least on an annual basis – if not more often.
