Default Greg Alexander Leads The Way On The COMP CamsŪ Road To The Nationals
After making a clean sweep of the 2009 COMP CamsŪ Grass Root Nationals at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Arkansas, Greg Alexander has already established himself as the man to beat in the 2010 rendition of the event

Four years ago COMP CamsŪ Director of Marketing, Chris Douglas, conceptualized a special event that would highlight the true grass root racers. Douglas recognized that there were plenty of specials in the dirt racing world that focused on Sprint Cars and Late Models, but few if any that focused on the Street Stock division. As a result, Douglas, along with Ben Shelton of MidSouthRacing.com, developed a unique event that was tabbed as the COMP CamsŪ Grass Root Nationals at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Arkansas. The cornerstone of the event was the Street Stock division, which competed for a purse that was double their normal payout, including a $1,000 first place prize. Time trials, a dash for cash, heat races, b-mains, driver introductions and a primetime feature event were all held for the Street Stocks. They responded with a count in excess of 40 cars and a feature event that went caution free with two and three wide racing throughout the field.

Over the next few years the event grew by leaps and bounds in terms of support. As a result, for the fourth edition of the event, in 2010, COMP CamsŪ decided to take the concept to the next level. The end result was a whole new program that included a pair of qualifying events throughout the year and a grand finale slated for September 18th at Riverside International Speedway. The grand finale was dubbed the COMP CamsŪ Memphis Nationals, and a purse that more than tripled the total weekly purse of the Street Stock division was attached with a $1,500 to win/$100 to start payout. Appropriately, the qualifying events were coined the COMP CamsŪ Road To The Nationals Qualifiers, with each event posting $500 to win plus the guarantee that the winner would be granted a provisional starting position for the September finale.

The first COMP CamsŪ Road To The Nationals Qualifier was held on Saturday, April 10th, 2010 and a strong contingent of Street Stock competitors entered the event. When the checkered flag finally dropped, it was Blytheville, Arkansas driver, Greg Alexander, who stood atop the winner’s podium. Alexander, who was the 2009 COMP CamsŪ Grass Root Nationals Champion, claimed a $500 cash prize and a guaranteed provisional in the September COMP CamsŪ Memphis Nationals for his efforts. Josh Ray of Southaven, Mississippi, and Neil Brown from Lexington, Tennessee, rounded out the top three finishers. The next COMP CamsŪ Road To The Nationals Qualifier will be held on Saturday, June 19th, and it will offer another $500 top prize as well as a guaranteed starting spot in the COMP CamsŪ Memphis Nationals.
