We arrived in Bowling Green, Kentucky, to considerably warmer temperatures than we had at the previous stops, which was a welcomed change. Lots of locals came out with their Hot Rods to join the Long Haulers at the Warren County Airport for a great day cars, games and entertainment.
We had to hang the second Long Hauler Banner today because the first one had been completely filled with signatures during the first three days. This one is already filling up too because there are so many people driving the entire tour this year.
We held the Kids’ Sidewalk Chalk Contest all day today. The sidewalks around us were covered with great pictures so it was hard to choose a winner. An 8-year-old boy named Evan won with his picture of a Hot Rod and the title “Hot Rod Power Ture.” Evan won a t-shirt and coloring book for his great work of art.
Today we kicked off the Engine Builder Duel. After not holding it in 2008 or 2009, we brought it back due to popular demand and we had a huge turn-out. It was a really big hit with the crowd! The two man teams worked as a single unit to swiftly and precisely assemble their engines. The winning team finished their engine in 30 minutes and 15 seconds. The other team came in a very close second, exactly one minute later at 31:15.
Our Big Wheels Race drew a nice crowd as well today. Every day we make the race a little different so nobody knows what to expect. Today, we held qualifying rounds and the feature race on a circle track. The crowed cheered the whole time, and the racers took out several cones.
After a great day in Bowling Green, Kentucky, we hit the road to our next stop. On our way into Chattanooga, Tennessee, we had to take a detour to avoid some major construction on I-75. Our GPS unit, or “Garmina” as she has been dubbed, took us into the edge of Georgia, but we finally made it to our next stop around 11 p.m. That was after losing an hour by driving into Eastern time.
All in all, it was another great day on the Hot Rod Power Tour. See you tomorrow at the Chattanooga State Community College.
