As we pulled our rig into the Regions Park Stadium in Birmingham, Alabama, there wasn’t a cloud in sight. The sunny skies were a warm welcome from the storms we experienced the day before.
People began to gather around the tent while our engine builders set up for the final Engine Builder Duel. The crowd favorite always draws a big audience. But before the duel started, we held another exciting Adults’ Big Wheel Race. We’re proud to announce that today’s $50 CPG™ gift certificate went to a woman who took victory over all the men in our bracket-style slalom course. Soon after she stepped away with her winnings, we heard one of the engines fire up at the Engine Builder Duel tent.
We were also proud to announce that the day’s Engine Builder Duel included our first female contestant. A husband and wife team proudly worked together assembling their Small Block Chevy after telling us that they were doing it for their four-month old twin sons! Both teams worked together swiftly, trying to get their respective engines assembled as quickly as possible so they could be the first to start-up for a hopeful 60 second run. It seemed that no sooner did we start the clock that the winning team cranked up their engine. It only took them a mere 26 minutes and 8 seconds; a 2010 Power Tour record!
Another exciting event that took place in Birmingham was the Ridetec Auto Cross Challenge. Everything from S10 trucks, to classic Chevelles to a 2011 Mustang took their turn on the auto cross course to compete for the fastest time and bragging rights.
As the day started to wind down, attendees made their way to the main stage for the promise of free goodies and entertainment from our Hot Rod emcee. When sun began to set and temperatures finally came down, we hit the road and headed further down south. See you in Mobile!
