Default Installing The FAST™ Wide-Band Air/Fuel Gauge Kit
No matter if an engine is fuel injected or if it runs with a carburetor, tuning is important to assure everything is operating the way it should. The tuning process is decisive in determining that a powerplant will produce the desired power, torque and efficiency within the demands of specific applications.

With lots of tools available to the casual driver or the serious competitor, tuning tools can range from gauges to expensive analytical equipment. For most of us, having the resources for expensive tuning equipment is not an option. And for most of us, we look to more simple yet reliable ways to know an engine is tuned right.

Gauges and other similar instrumentation are one of the best ways to tell us that the engine tuning is good and operating as it should. And instrumentation generally won’t require a stimulus loan from the government to pay for it.

One especially valuable instrument to check on engine performance is an air/fuel ratio gauge. This gauge is a simple and economical way to show how an engine is working within its parameters for power. And the good news is it’s affordable.

Wide-Band Air/Fuel Gauge

A Wide-Band Air/Fuel Gauge Kit from FAST™ is the perfect source to gauge this kind of data so you can be sure the air-to-fuel ratio is correctly maintained for any given engine application. The kit has an economical and accurate 2-1/16” gauge that won’t overcrowd your instrument panel and is back-lit for easy night viewing. It’s also wired so it is powered up whenever the engine is running. Along with the gauge, the kit comes with a Bosch wide-band oxygen sensor and standalone sensor control unit that mounts easily in the interior of any vehicle.

The kit works on any engine and it comes with everything you need including the gauge, module, harness, sensor and bung. Simple to install this system is not only for serious power tuning but also ideal for monitoring the overall fuel tune of the engine no matter if it’s daily driving or performing in competition.

The installation is uncomplicated and can be accomplished in a couple of hours by the average person and the included instructions provide very clear guidance in hooking the system up. To illustrate the setup, we put the kit into a 2005 Ford Mustang GT and below is an overview of the installation steps. This overview illustrates the simplicity of installation, but you should always refer to the included instructions for complete details.

The process begins with the installation of the O2 sensor bung. The
best location is just upstream of the catalytic converter. To put the
bung in place, first an opening is made as is illustrated here.

With the opening created, the bung is welded in place. If you don’t
have the proper equipment to install the bung, a local muffler shop
can do it for you.

Next the wide-band O2 sensor is threaded in place.

This photo shows the wiring components included in the kit. When
the main sensor cable is routed it’s important that the cable and box
(shown in center of the photo) are located away from spark plug
wires, distributor, ignition coil and hot engine components. This step
helps avoid any electrical interference or potential damage from heat.

As shown here, the gauge wires are color coded and matched to the
ends of the O2 sensor processor unit. The instructions make the
attachment locations clear.

Now the placement location of the gauge is determined inside the
car and the gauge is mounted and the wiring connections are made.
As is shown here, the connections is a simple plug-in.

In this illustration the location of the gauge for this 2005 Mustang GT is to the left of the instrument panel for easy viewing.

The Wide-Band Air/Fuel Gauge Kit from FAST™ is an essential part of engine performance monitoring that every car enthusiast or serious competitor should have.
