Default Kicking the Addiction
On a business trip this week, two things stuck in my mind - one of which I’m sure you’ll understand and the other I’m confident you won’t (unless you are from New Jersey). What is “Addiction” – this one you’ll understand. I’m not talking about cigarettes, drugs or booze…I’m talking about racing. And don’t try to deny it either – you’re on a motorsports related web page reading blogs; you qualify undeniably as a full-blown ‘Speed Addict’. It hit me early Monday morning, less than a day after enjoying a fine Sunday afternoon riding my KX 450F around some trails in the Memphis area. I sat at lunch, midway through an industry conference and found myself flipping through photos of my bike on my Blackberry. Friends, this is called addiction. The bike was only a glimpse…a moment…an instance; it goes quite deeper than that. It could be simple, it could be complicated, it could be something I drive, it could be something I ride – all that matters is that it moves and can go fast. As I recollect the week, I think about how many other ‘Blackberry bike photo’-like moments I’ve had this week. From driving down Sepulveda in LA whipping my neck around looking at the occasional Porsche, to flipping through the latest racing magazines every night before going to bed, to browsing Craigslist with a keyword search “BBC” one random night, to going to the NHRA museum and wanting to read every display, to walking the ever popular LA Roadster show, to attending the NASCAR All-Star race….it simply never ends and never bores me. This is quite simply an addiction – I can’t get enough and I don’t know when to stop. There is no cure for this addiction, so kicking it is out, enjoying it is in!
