Default looking for the right cam
I'm rebuilding a 5.7 L vortec chevy. It's going in a 6000 lb. 4x4 with factory gears and an automatic.It's a '97 with original computer and intake.
I'm using the original 3.48 stroke crank but I went with 6.125 rods and flat top pistons. Compression around 10.5 and I want to reused the factory roller lifters.

What comp. cam would work best and maybe even get me some mileage?

Sorry , forgot to mention. The motor is .040 over and using the factory vortec heads.
This isn't a race appliction, just being used on the street as a daily driver.

How much stall converter will you have? Are you willing to tune the computer for the camshaft? What is the truck being used for?

I 'm using the original torque converter.
I was thinking about a down loader. I didn't want to dyno and reflash.
Truck is just for the street. I thought that with it's high mileage i should be putting a motor in it anyways.
I was thinking if I could build something that didn't have to work as hard I could get some mileage out of it.
Any ideas for a cam?

I would look at something like our part number 08-501-8 camshaft. I will mention with that much compression and staying on a smaller camshaft with an iron head you may run into issues running pump gas in this setup.

would a down loader help this problem?
Does the longer rod , affect what cam I use?

Thanks for your input. I just don't want to deal with an engine light and emissions.

I would recommend using a programer of some type in conjuction with the camshaft. It will not really help with the cylinder pressure issue though. The longer rod does play a role in selecting a camshaft generally but that was taken into consideration in my recommendation. We can NOT guarantee any thing on emissions but I see no reason to have much of an issue getting this to pass with a good tune in it.

Thanks for your help.
I'm going to try the JET programmer. Their ad said that I could change the air/fuel ratio.
Do You know anyone that tried using this?

I do not have any personal experiance with Jet's products. They have been around for a long time and I am sure they make a quality product though.
