Default LT1, eats rotors
Ok I have a 96Z28 camaro 383 with #07-468-8, I sent e-mail but wanted to post this problem, I have been dealing with this now for 2years, can't keep a opti-spark in the car, it chews up the rotors, I have tried every kind that you can think of, MSD, GM, Summit and rebuilt units no luck, after about 3k it stops running, pull the opti, rotor loose/broken. I have used red loctite, have also used high temp silicone on top of the screws and they still come loose. My question is, what is the length of this cam compared to GMs, I know the pin is longer(ground it down) but I what to know is the cam itself longer then GM, have not checked the amount of back & fore movement yet, but this was a new built engine with problems right front the start, I put the cam in and the plate also, I know the plate was tight in place. Could the rough idle cause this. cam bolts did loosen up one time, but I put in longer bolts in and red loctite then, checked them each time and they are still tight. got any ideas other than possibly the length, that's what I was wondering about sense the pin was longer maybe the cam was a littler longer, if so it would cause this problem.

Have you solved this yet? You do realize that there is an inherent problem with the opti-spark setup that it eats caps, rotors, and crossfires, right? If you get sick of dealing with it, look into the 'opti-direct' solutions, which converts it to a direct ignition system. Delteq is one manufacturer who I've seen the product work well. Shop it. Hope this helps!

To answer your original question no the camshaft is not any longer than a standard GM cam. The other forum member is correct is stating that people have had many issues with the opti-spark setup. Sorry I did not see your question before I am not sure how we missed it but I had no idea it was here.
