Default mutha thumpr timing...
So I replaced my ground down Mutha Thumpr with a new one with new lifters,etc.. I broke it in and it's 100%. Now i have timing issues. It will idle all day long perfectly . However when I put it under a load about 3000 rpm is all i can get. I have it narrowed down to a distributor and have a new MSD one coming monday afternoon. My question is what kind of total timing am I shhoting for roughly? 302, aprox 9-9.5 :1 compression, mutha thumpr. My intital timing is about 8 degrees give or take a bit. Any pointing in the right direction would be most helpful!
Thanks!

Timing is a tuning tool and no one can trully tell you where to set it. There are simply too many variables to say for certain. For a starting point I would be around 12 degrees initial and around 34-36 total advance. From there simply tune to whatever the motor runs its best at.
