Default In Racing And Business - Trust Is The Key
Trust is a big word that has a big meaning. In the world of high-performance components, for instance, trust is at the heart of why companies sell and continue to sell components. If users don’t trust that products are the finest, best engineered and most reliable parts, they won’t trust the company that’s selling them. It’s this kind of trust, or lack of it, that makes or breaks a company.

The best way to learn how a business rates regarding the trust factor is to talk to someone experienced in buying and selling parts. We wanted to speak to someone who is a trusted person with credentials both in racing and business. There are a number of such people in the racing arena, but in the end drag racer and businessman, Edmond Richardson, became an obvious choice to hear what he thinks about working with a trusted company.

Edmond Richardson

Richardson is among the best known names in the world of drag racing and has a strong reputation as a straight shooting, standup racer and businessman. His credentials of excellence in both racing and business are a mile long.

Richardson comes from a family of racers; his father, who was a successful racer in his own right, taught him about racing virtually from the time he could walk. He began competing on motorcycles at the age of eleven. Then, when he got his driver’s license, Richardson moved into bracket racing where he continues to compete today.

His racing record is second to none, and he ranks among the elite of NHRA competitors. Through his career he has raced in Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Stock and Bracket Racing divisions. His dazzling credentials are witness to his successful racing career where he ranks as one of most winning NHRA competitors, with three National Championships, twelve Division titles and thirty-eight National Event wins—a record that only eleven other drivers in the 50-year history of NHRA have achieved.

Along his career path, Richardson discovered a market for building high-quality and technologically advanced dragsters. Seizing on the opportunity, he founded a business that builds sportsman class dragsters from the ground up. The success of this business gave rise to two other enterprises.

The first is the development of his successful Edmond Richardson School of Drag Racing, which takes place on targeted dates at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, KY. The school teaches the fundamentals of racing to those seeking their competition license or wanting to upgrade their capabilities on the track. Students learn techniques for driving a race car through the quarter mile and a lot of other essentials while driving Quick Rod/Super Comp style bracket dragsters.

The other is Edmond Richardson Motorsports (ERM), an Internet based business that sells high-quality race components direct to consumers. The range of components is broad, and he sells only the best of the best from the most trusted companies in the industry. At the top of his list of manufacturers is COMP Cams® in Memphis, TN.

When asked about COMP® from the trust point of view, Richardson didn’t hesitate in sharing his thoughts. He said, “They are among the very first race companies I was connected to in racing and in business. Much of my success in racing comes from the fact that COMP Cams® has always been there for me. Today as a racer, driving school owner and internet business owner, it’s as important as ever to have a company like COMP® in my corner.

“Both my racing and driving school engines are built by Tracy Dennis of Sunset Racing Engines in Lubbock, TX. Tracy does the building because I’m not equipped for it, but I know that Tracy works with COMP Cams® doing a lot of R&D with them to get cams and components that will work exactly right for us. COMP® has been a trusted partner in our engine program as far back as I can remember.

“It’s not only their products that make COMP Cams® good. The people that work there have made my life easy. They have a way of making the relationship personal. I work a lot with Dean Harvey and Jamy Padgitt who are especially important to me. Their customer service is the best.

“I trust everything they make. I mean everything. That includes lifters, springs, rockers, camshafts and timing chains. I’ve never had anything that’s not reliable from them. When you have a company that works, you stay with them. I stick with what brought me to where I am and have no reason to change. We’ve had very good success and don’t plan on going anywhere.

“COMP Cams® products have long ago proven to me they are the best in the market. I wouldn’t sell anything I didn’t believe in and trust. That’s why COMP® components are a significant part of my business. They’re good and they last.

“The bottom line is everything I do in racing and in business is connected to COMP Cams®. Both my racing results and my business livelihood depend on having the best components possible from a source I trust. I trust COMP Cams® and you should too.”
