rebuild or replace?

I have a 1998 chevy k1500 with the 4l60E, it lost reverse gear and skips gear in forward. I have used a power programer on the truck to correct tire size as my truck is lifted 6in and has 35in tires, I have used it in both truck pulls, mud drags and to work daily for 3yrs. what would you recommend? rebuild, or replace and what transmission would be right for my truck?

I would be glad to get you helped out in what trans you need. If you can though tell me a little about the engine you have and also do you tow with it. You can call or email me or post back here.

im sorry. I should have stated more information.

the truck has a 5.7L sfi engine the only upgrades it has are things like MSD & accel ignition. Edelbrock shorty headers, K&N air and oil filters. royalpurple fluids. and a hypertech power tuner.

the truck is used for towing and offroad use as well as highway speeds of 70mph at around 2k rpm's. I dont know what the rear gears are but could check if needed.

You could go one of two ways. Buy a new trans and converter or buy a rebuild kit and a new converter. Either way the converter i would recommend is our Maximizer high torque toque converter #242820. If you wanted to go with the whole transmission #371430. If you wanted to rebuild it yourself the Maximizer overhaul kit #378906 will be a complete set up for your trans. Also if you do not have one i recommend our ATSG repair manual #893300.
