Default RHS #12402 vs #12407?
I was wondering from a performance standpoint the difference between the early style SBC #12402 Pro-Torker vs the Vortec style #12407? I see the flow numbers posted for the vortec style, but is there a difference in the #12402 due to the different style intake ports? I am putting together a mild 355 SBC with a COMP XE-268-4 and a Holley Stealthram and am wondering if either is "better". Thanks.

James

The 12407 vortec head is a better performing head than the 12402 OEM Pro Torker heads. The difference is the intake design, the 12407 head uses a "high swirl" type port and it is very similar to a stock vortec head. Also the 12407 head has a (heart shaped) combustion chamber, which also is a benefit to performance. We have p/n 12410, which is the same head as the 12407 except it is machined for a pre-87 intake bolt pattern and the 96-up vortec intake pattern. Also, it is machined for 2.02 /1.6 valves and has .570 bronze valve guides for higher lift cams. let me know if i you need anything else.

thanks

Thanks, you wouldnt happen to have any flow numbers for the 12402 would you? The reason I am asking is I ordered the 12402's from Summit when RHS was first offered on there, and they described them as the vortecs, just with 67cc chambers which is what I wanted. Well now I find out there just the OEM style and I'm a little dissapointed.

unfortunately, We do not have any flow numbers for those heads. We are currently working on flow testing all of our heads in-house, but it will be few months before all of that testing is completed.

thanks

Thanks for all your help, I do have one more question, from what youve maybe seen or heard about do you think I will notice a big performace difference with the 12407's or 12410's versus the 12402's i have on my mild 355 with a COMP XE-268-4 cam and Holley Stealthram intake? I just dont want to be missing out on another 20-30HP when the heads are the same price. Thanks again.

The 12410 head should make more power than the 12402 heads. IF you are concerned about the 64cc chamber, you may want to use a thicker head gasket. Also the 12410 head will still allow you to use the Stealth intake, although you make want to gasket match the head to intake runner to optimize performance.

thanks
