Default RHS pro action alternator bolt attachment ford 289
Hi,

just started fitting my pro actions to my 68 289,

the accessory bolt hole on the front of the head is too large for the alternator bolt

and here is a picture of the size difference.. the bolt you see is the stock alt bolt, shich fits snugly through the alternator bracket and housing, so i cant use a larger bolt. im guessing i need some kind of threaded insert, but nothing is mentioned on the heads documentation and there was nothing came with the heads.

cheers,

Mark

What size bolt do you have? The heads do not come with the insert due to not all the factory cylinder heads needing it and not having it allows people to use the EGR cross over tube some of the later heads come with. We do have some inserts and I know where you can others if we do not have what you need. Just let me know the size and we can get you fixed up.

the bolt has a 5/8th head i`m assuming that makes it 5/8ths UNC im still not fully up on this AF thing.
i didnt think to measure the actual thread diameter but it has 14 tpi.

I`m in the uk and was hoping to get my engine together this weekend..

i didnt even notice this til i came to mock up the heads.. how quickly could i get the inserts?
its a pain being over here when something like this isnt mentioned or highlighted in the docs, you come to assembkly.. then some tiny little part holds up your project for 2 weeks oh well..

cheers,

Mark

You need a "thermactor" plug. It will thread into the head and has internal threads to accept your bolt. We carry them under Pioneer # PF-580-4. They're available from Ford and several aftermarket suppliers. You should be able to find them locally.
