Default Rock On! Ultra Pro Magnum™ Rockers Are Cutting Edge
Rocker arms are among the most complex parts of the valve train. And because of the demands they endure, the design has to be perfectly accurate or failure is the result. Over the years rockers have been analyzed and redesigned to keep pace with the ever increasing engine requirements. In 1989, COMP Cams® hit the sweet spot with their Pro Magnum™ Rocker design that revolutionized rocker arm weight, performance and durability. They were the standard of rocker arm technology.

That was then. Now, with the development of the new Ultra Pro Magnum™ Rocker Arms, engineers at COMP Cams® have elevated rockers to an entirely new standard. This new generation of rocker maintains the essential performance benefits of its predecessor and added some vital new features that make them the best in the business.

This diagram demonstrates the improved stiffness of the Ultra Pro
Magnum™ Rockers

Starting with a “clean slate”, COMP Cams® engineers set about improving the venerable Pro Magnum™ rockers and the result is an extraordinary new Ultra Pro Magnum™ Rocker Arm that is stronger, lighter and more durable than anything available in the marketplace.

Destructive testing is accomplished with the use of hydraulic
fixtures like the one shown here.

From a material standpoint, the new rockers are made from steel, because the strength and durability over aluminum is well established. The advantage of steel shows that as long as it cycles at less than its maximum failure point, it will virtually last a lifetime. Steel also has the ability to remain rigid and not flex with increasing rpm, and the 8650 chromemoly steel used in the new rockers is 300% stronger than extruded aluminum. Simply stated, this material offers rigidity for maximum lift, limited flex and cycle strength that lasts a lifetime.

Designed with an arched structure using FEA stress analysis, these new rockers display stiffness characteristics that are stronger than the first generation. With the use of advanced failure testing and extensive Spintron® and dyno testing, the Ultra Pro Magnum™ rockers show an astonishing 29% strength gain over the originals.

The design also employs a “web-like” concept that adds strength where it’s needed and reduces mass in low stress areas. This design method provides a reduction of the moment of inertia and improves the dynamic balance, resulting in maximum lift and valve train control at high rpm.

Engineers also looked deeper into the rocker and spring dynamics and determined that with the removal of some material in low stress areas the new design afforded greater clearance for larger diameter springs. This achievement made possible the exploitation of benefits of larger diameter valve springs, retainers and locks. Subsequent testing confirmed this advantage came with no loss of performance.

Other important features are the oversized trunion and precision sorted needle bearings that supply the strength to handle the demands of high load valve springs. And the hardened roller tips reduce friction and eliminate premature valve guide wear. The final touch is the black oxide finish which not only provides a high tech look, it also deters oil from adhering to the rocker, promoting a cleaner and more efficient valve train operation.

As icing on the cake, Ultra Pro Magnum™ rockers are fully rebuildable and COMP Cams® provides a service to disassemble, inspect and replace any moving parts necessary. Applications include most popular Chevy and Ford street and race engines, and they come with a lifetime warranty against the breakage of the rocker arm body-- for any reason.

The Spintron® is used for both durability and destruction testing.

When considered in total, it’s clear that these new rockers offer substantial advantages over any comparable product in the marketplace. The facts are unambiguous and it’s very clear that the new Ultra Pro Magnum™ rockers are now the new standard for high-performance rocker arms.
