Default SBF Steel Billet Cam
Hi Guys...Ive finally chosen a cam for my 363 Dart project into my '34 Tudor....Comp Cams mechanical roller part# 35-772-8....I cant find any info in the Comp catalogue to say whether its cast or steel...But going through numerous forums find that its a cast core cam...Do Comp make a Steel Billet Solid Roller Cam in this particular part# that ive chosen or do I really need to go the steel billet way at all and just stick with the cast one? ...Thanx...PJ

We do not offer that cam off the shelf in a billet steel piece though we could certainly make one and it would only take 3-5 business days typically. As far as if you need it that is really up to you. The billet cam is of course stronger and will handle more spring pressure, though you will have to run either a bronze or polymer distributor gear. The Austempered material this cam is made of is much stronger than a standard cast cam and will accept a steel/iron mealonized gear so you do not have to use a distributor gear that will wear out. Most of our Extreme Energy Solid Roller cams are on this type of core. The Extreme Energy solid roller lobes are designed to accept less spring pressure so this type of core can be used and we do not recommend using traditional solid roller spring pressures with them.
