Default Short Travel Lifters
I have a 377 ci SB Chevrolet with a 12-433-8 cam & 853 lifters. What are the pluses & negatives of switching to the 15853 lifter. What difference in performance should I see?

Default short travel lifters
The new short travel lifter is much more stable at high RPM and will deal with higher spring pressure much better. It will allow you to turn a Hyd. lifter beyond the normal 6500RPM most of them are limited too (assuming the combo would benefit from turning higher RPM). They may be slightly more ticky sounding than a standard lifter but that is about the only draw back I could think of.

Will one see a horsepower & torque change?

You could see a HP and Torque change if your lifters were having problems maintaining stability at higher RPM's then you went to these to fix the issue. You could even have this issue without realizing it but it would show up on a dyno graph. You will not typically see a HP increase from just changing to a different style lifter though if the you had no issues to begine with. In addition to being more stable they are also a higher quality better built lifter.

Does the 853 & the 15853 use the same length push rod?

I do not forsee any reason for you to have to change pushrods by switching to these lifters. Although we always recomend checking before you run the motor to be sure.

I wasn't aware that Comp was making a short travel hydraulic, what travel do they have?

I know SM Lifters have a .015 travel Hydraulic for the S/E guys
