Default Springs For 11-770-8
Just wanted a smaller solid roller for a 454 big block with about 9.5:1 compression. I have already picked 11-770-8 as the cam that I think would work best. The recommended springs for the cam are 953-16 and 954-16. The problem that I am having is choosing which spring to use. The 953 spring is supposed to be installed at 1.900" for 148 lbs and the 954 spring is supposed to be installed at the same height for 210 lbs. Why is there so much difference between the 2 springs? Also, what spring seat pressure do you recommend for this cam? I'm not racing or anything and would prefer as little spring pressure as needed to control the valve train for durability. Any help is appreciated.

The extreme energy solid roller cams are made to run with much less spring pressure than normal solid rollers to help them live longer on the street. I would run the 954-16 spring with this set up on a BBC. This will be the better choice for keeping the valve train under controll and not wearing out parts quickly.
