Default TCI C4 shifting problems (no 3rd gear)
So im running a TCI streetfighter C4 in my 76 mach 1 behind my 302. As i was driving down the freeway and slowed to get off at my exit, the tranny suddenly down shifted into 2nd. After that i have not been able to get my car back into 3rd gear. I can manually shift it between 1st and 2nd, but if i start driving in "drive", the tranny just stays in first. It wont shift at all in Drive. The tranny only has about 500miles on it and this is the second TCI tranny to do this exact thing.

Im running two tranny coolers, TCI's tranny fluid, fluid has good color, and have lifted the car up and all my hookups are done to spec. Does anyone have any ideas?

From talking around, people are telling me that i have a valve body issue. I want to go to a full manual valve body anyways and have heard that those cure alot of shifting problems. Any help would be great.

Does the fluid look contaminated? Odds are it is and that there is some contamination in the valve body. What converter is it and did you change converters when you changed transmissions?

The fluid looks fine, and i havent opened up the valve body yet. There is only 500 miles on this tranny and i changed the the fluid and filter after the first 250 miles from when i installed it.

Im using a TCI converter 2000 stall.

Was the converter changed when you changed the transmission? The contamination could have came from that if it wasn't changed or the cooler.

No they are the same TCI converter and cooler from the previous TCI C4.

What kind of contamination would it be? Particles in the fluid?

When i was having problems with the previous tranny, i did mustiple fluid flushes to see if that was the problem and it did not fix it.

Sorry for the delay! If the converter was changed and you flushed the cooler then its not contamination from the former parts. There is probably some particles of something that has gotten into the valve body and locked some valves up.
