Default TCI Street Fighter Converter 700R4
I just installed a 700R4 tranny in my 69 Chevelle.

I bought Street Fighter Converter and its making a vibrating noise at some RPM's.

By tapping the flexplate the noise seems like its coming from the non-used mounting pads of the dual pattern flexplate and the flat mounting ring of the converter.

I installed flat washers between the mounting pad to get the mounting ring off the un-used mounting pads.

Is there a better remedy?

The noise is almost gone now.

The flexplate should not be vibrating against the mounting ring like that. Is it an aftermarket one or a stock one?

Its a stock flexplate and the mounting ring on the converter is hittting the un-used mounting pads.

If you tap the flexplate its like vibrating against the mounting pads (Small Bolt Pattern Pads)

Like I mentioned earlier to get the mounting ring off the small bolt pattern pads I added a flat washer between the flexplate and the converter.

Its making the clanging/vibrating noise at idle or just above.

That is odd and very uncommon. You can use 1/8" or thinner washers and it will not cause any issues with anything as long as the converter is not "jammed" tight into the transmission.

Ok I added the flat washers no difference I still have this buzzing/vibrating sound at idle and just above.

On the hoist with it idling the noise is coming from the flexplate torque converter area.

If you speed the idle up it goes away then comes back when you idle it back down again.

It happens in gear and in park or Neutral.

Whats next?

Flexplate maybe?

The transmission shifts perfect, acts flawless etc.

Dave,
From the sounds of this the only option could be a cracked flexplate. If you can unbolt the converter from the flex plate side it forward to the trans. If that does not give you enough room to inspect it up bolt the trans and check it the flex plate. Please feel free to call or email or post with any further questions.

thanks

Russ

OK new flexplate, noise still there.
Its like a buzzing/vibrating sound at idle and just above.
If I pull on the TV cable the noise doesn't change at all.
Put it in gear then give it a bit of gas the noise is back.
Take it out for a drive and the noise is still there at low speeds in all the gears.
I remember when I worked at the GM dealership as a tech, they had a fix for 700R4's with an updated pressure regulator valve is this the noise I am hearing?
Or is it the Torque Converter?

Default Vibrating Noise
It's likely that the noise is coming from the pressure regulator valve. Since the spring tension regulates the line pressure, low engine rpms can cause the valve to resonate, causing a buzzing sound. This doesn't typically occur with a high performance spring, but it can occur with a stock spring, that has lost some of it's seat pressure.
