Default TCI torque convertor clearance
Anyone got any suggestions why I dont have clearance between flexplate and convertor pads ?its a th350 box ,chevy s/b, tci convertor (breakaway) and flexplate I have 7/8" from engine to flexplate and 15/16" from bellhousing to convertor pads which leaves me just about 1/16" at the most, more like 1mm if I fit the g/box up to engine and the recommended space is 1/8",and yes the convertor is pushed all the way in . If I fit a standard convertor I get 1-1/8"from bellhousing to pads.Ive been told from to grind off 2 or 3 mm from the pads but that does not seem right .Any ideas
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Your measurement of the flexplate seems to be correct. Most flexplates measure 7/8" from bellhousing to the mounting pads. Let's check your converter length next. To do this, just stand the converter on it's hub (the part that goes into the transmission) and measure from the hub to the mounting pads. It should measure approx 6.125". If it measures over 6.155", then it's too long. If it measures correctly, then the converter wasn't seated properly into the transmission.

thanks for the reply. What i found when measuring everything was that the crank(steel crank) was was about 3 to 4mm longer than a standard one I had sitting around ,and so the gearbox shaft was hitting the back of the convertor when pushed in so I ground off the end of the g/box shaft which gave me the 1/8" gap between the flexplate and convertor and now it fits fine and was burning rubber again last night.
Thanks again
