Default TH400 Rear Servo
I am completing the rebuild of my TH400 and at the point of re-installing the Rear Servo. I replaced the rear band, and now the rear servo won't go back in. I am reasonably certain that I need to alter/replace the apply pin since I have a new rear band. Is this correct? I know that they come in 3 different lengths. Also, most dis-assembly photographs show a return spring under the 1-2 accumulator piston in the rear servo. Mine doesn't have one. Is this spring essential? The trans was working OK prior to Katrina without the spring and some GM diagrams do not show the spring. What to do? If I cut the servo apply pin, how do I know it is enough?

You shouldn't need to cut the rear servo pin. There is something wrong with the band if it won't go in all of the way. As far as the spring, it helps to hold the servo open as well as helping to release the band. If it didn't have one before and it worked, I would leave it out.
