Default Th700R4 with const pressure valvebody has random shifting problem
Hi,
I rebuilt the Th700R4 and installed the 376020 constant pressure valvebody. Shifting to reverse, first and second gear is OK – fast and clean. But shifting to third and fourth is sometimes very rough, sometimes normal. I was using the silver spring w/o washer.
Silver spring with washer it was shifting to third extremely harsh.
One thing is strange: loosening the kick-down cable shifting will be rough and tightening the cable shifting will be softer. Isi t normal?

Thanks,
Erkki

the cable your referring to controls the pump pressure, pulling it tight and driving it is going to cause you to rebuild the trans again. proper adjustment is vital to the life of the trans. you want the shift from 1st to 2nd to occur at around 15mph with regular throttle. Get one of the pro's from here to help with proper set up.Good luck

Erkki,
What servo do you have in this transmission? The 3-4 shift will be firm and that is normal for this trans. The cable need to be adjusted to that the shift points are correct.

The cable he is talking about dose not control pump pressure on our Constant pressure valve body. That valve body is designed to apply a constant pressure to the valve body at all time insuring the life of the trans even with a miss adjusted cable. However it will not shift correctly.

Hi Russell, I have installed the kit and have some problems. First off I started with a rebiult beefed up 700r4 that was working perfect. My hope with the 376020 was the increase life and if possable firm shifts from where I was.

Reverse ok
1st gear to 2nd ok shift but fast at any TV cable adjustment
2nd to 3rd not working (If I lift off the gas the engine returns to idle no engine drag)
4th not working

When down shifting from 2nd to 1st (1st comes in slow like a delay)

All 4 balls installed per instructions with the 5th ball in the auxiliary valve body.
C gasket is up to the case with V to the valve body.

Need some ideas on what to check?

Thanks

I figured it out I have gasket C where Gasket V should have been.
