Default Trying to decide what to do with my trans.
Hello,

I have a 61 Chevy Bel Air with a mildly built 283/305 heads. Speed Pro cam, ported heads, bigger valves, edelbrock performer, edelbrock 600 carb, HEI, .040 pistons, etc. The trans would occasionally slip when I would pull out from a side street onto a main street if I was on the gas a little. I figured since I have the trans out, now is the best time to either rebuild, buy new, switch to a different trans (like a 700R4 or TH 350). I do a lot of highway cruises going to shows so I was more apt to go with a 700R4 if I do decide to switch transmissions.

So, enough with my babbling: The motor in the car is an earlier small block and has an adapter between the block and the trans that the starter mounts to and I know the TH350 and 700R4 are longer than my current transmission. With that said, if I wanted to switch to one of the aforementioned transmissions, what parts would I be looking at and what kinds of costs would I incur. I'm just trying to decide if it's worth the added expense and time to save some gas mileage.

Tattoo Collector,
Sound like a nice little ride there! I would think that the 700r4 would be ideal for your set up. We have a package that includes our Streetfighter trans, Breakaway converter, Cooler, 3gal of fluid, and kickdown cable. This kit runs 2399.00 then what else you would need it a kickdown bracket, cross member, and drive shaft.

Thanks

Russ

I guess it depends on how much $$ you're willing to spend to "save gas".
