Default What You Need To Know About Going Nitrous
Questions and Answers about ZEX™ Nitrous System Accessories

If you’ve never thought about going nitrous, you should. And if you are already using a nitrous system, you should think about adding improvements for better performance. And along the way, you might even get a new WOW factor added to your system!

As the leader in nitrous technology, ZEX™ has the very best nitrous oxide systems available. They also have a number of add-on innovations for nitrous systems designed to offer better performance as well as delivering some really dramatic and attention grabbing results.

Three such products from ZEX™ are highlighted below. They are a purge kit, nitrous style spark plugs and a nitrous system bottle pressure gauge. Each one is an essential addition for nitrous users, and by using any of these products the performance of your existing nitrous system will improve.

ZEX™ NITROUS PURGE KIT

Q: What is a purge kit?

A:
When nitrous is under pressure it’s in a liquid state. When the system is shut down the nitrous line is no longer under pressure and the liquid nitrous goes into a vapor state within the lines. This vapor is not efficient because it’s half as dense as liquid. And if the vapor is not evacuated from the system, the first two to three seconds of nitrous activation will produce a rich fuel situation and acceleration will be significantly impeded. The obvious solution is to get the vapor out and that’s where the ZEX™ Purge Kit comes in.

The ZEX™ Nitrous Purge Kit is a system designed to evacuate nitrous vapor from the line before the system is put in use. It has a separate solenoid and when it’s activated the vapor is cleared out and is replaced with liquid nitrous. The kit is designed to work with the ZEX™ Nitrous System as well as any other nitrous system on the market.

Q: How do I know when it’s working?

A:
When the purge system is working you can’t help but know it. When you hit the button a 15’ cloud of nitrous is ejected, producing a snow-like column that’s a really impressive sight.

Q: Is there other stuff for my purge kit?

A:
There sure is. To add extra excitement to the nitrous purge, there are several unique options available. Take for instance the ZEX™ Purge Cloud LED Kit that functions just like the standard kit but with an impressive addition. When it’s activated the nitrous cloud is illuminated in brilliant color of red, blue or green.

Then there’s the Dual Outlet Purge Kit™ that creates a dual “V” pattern nitrous cloud. When this system is activated, it produces a dual cloud of nitrous vapor. Like the single cloud version, this kit can also be illuminated with the addition of a ZEX™ LED color light.

The options keep coming with the ZEX™ Machine Gun Purge™ Kit which is equipped with Rapid Fire Purge Module™. This kit pulses any purge kit on the market regardless of brand, releasing nitrous with a “machine gun” blast of noise and color.

Q: What about the installation?

A:
Not only is installation straightforward, anyone with the average mechanical aptitude can do it. And each product comes with everything you need for installation including a thorough set of instructions. The additional good news is that ZEX™ has a full technical staff that will assist in every way possible to provide and answers for any nitrous questions you may have. And they are only a phone call away.

SPARK PLUGS FOR NITROUS

Q: Why do I need different spark plugs for a nitrous system?

A:
Standard plugs just aren’t designed for the nitrous environment. With nitrous there is up to 30 to 40% more horsepower and with that much more combustion heat the engine must be tuned to that kind of heat range. With the increased combustion temps, the spark plugs quickly can end up glowing at the tip which can then cause a pre-firing condition, resulting in engine damage.

To avoid this situation, ZEX™ has spark plugs designed to operate in the heat range needed for efficient performance and eliminate the “too hot” conditions of standard plugs. ZEX ™ spark plugs are available in two versions, one for flat seat style cylinder heads and one for tapered seat style cylinder heads. For the flat seat cylinder head there is the three electrode Triple Fire Spark Plugs™ that feature several new technologies that will maximize your ignition performance and horsepower.

For the tapered seat cylinder heads, ZEX™ has two spark plugs that are four electrode versions. One is the Power Tune™ which is designed for engines with computer tuning up to 400hp. The other is Power Racer™, designed to maximize performance in engines with up to 700hp.

Both the three and four electrode versions include ZEX™ Igniter Core™ technology, which has a center electrode of pure copper, surrounded by a high-purity nickel shell for durability. This special construction conducts electricity and heat over 5 times better than platinum and almost 3 times better than iridium. The result is more horsepower-producing spark energy and greater detonation resistance than platinum or iridium can deliver.

Additionally, these plugs have Clean Fire™ Technology that uses the spark from the ground straps to aid in cleaning the center electrode. This burns off excess carbon and ensures that you get maximum ignition power and superior resistance to fouling, even after hours of idling and stop and go traffic.

When you factor in all of this new spark plug technology, it’s clear that ZEX™ is the best choice for those serious about nitrous performance.

NITROUS BOTTLE PRESSURE GAUGE

Q: Why do I need a gauge?

A:
Optimum operation of a nitrous system occurs within the range of 900-1000 psi. Pressure higher than 1000 psi will produce excessive flow of nitrous. This can cause engine damage or cause the solenoid to lock closed preventing nitrous flow. Pressure lower than 900psi will produce an excessively rich condition, resulting in horsepower loss.

In either case, the way to monitor proper bottle pressure is with the installation of the ZEX™ Nitrous Pressure Gauge. The gauge provides precise pressure readings so you can be sure the nitrous pressure is within a safe range.

The gauge is designed for high accuracy and long life. It comes anodized for a high-quality completion look and is available in a non-liquid and a liquid filled version.

Q: What about installation?

A:
Installation is easy. Then the gauge adapter is inserted between the nitrous bottle outlet fitting and the delivery line. It’s just that simple.

Q: How do I adjust the pressure level of my nitrous bottle?

A:
ZEX™ recommends the addition of a Nitrous Bottle Heater that will maintain the correct pressure range. The heater automatically maintains optimum bottle pressure with precision thermostats. The heater comes with Velcro straps for fast and easy installation and the electrical components are pre-assembled and molded into the heater for ease of installation. It also comes in two hookup versions, the direct wire version or the power point plug-in version.
