Default Will this effect the operation of my cam
Anyone know what this could be? (see attachment)

It is extremely hard and wouldn't come off with carb cleaner on a rag. It felt almost feels like an epoxy or other super hard material. It is slightly risen.

My question is will this effect the operation of the cam?

Thanks in advance.

I can't tell exactly what you are referring to in that picture. If you are referring to the copper coloring on the lobes, I would have to get the cam in here and check it to know for sure if it will affect the operation of the cam or not. Normally, anything that is raised on the cam lobe will affect how the roller lifter rolls across the lobe and could affect the performance. In some cases, I have seen crappy oil build up on the surface of the cam and cause the lifters not to roll very well and cause damage. If you have a local machine shop, you may want to see if they can polish the lobes a little and knock it off, or at least tell you what it may be.

Sorry. I was referring to the yellow substance about halfway on the camshaft.

That appears to be some sort of paint pen. I don't see any reason it would affect the operation of the cam, unless it is on one of the lobes. That part of the camshaft doesnt actually contact anything and doesn't control any oil flow, so you should be good to go.

Thanks for getting back.

That is what I thought, but I am no expert.

No problem. If you need anything in the future, don't hesitate to ask.
