Default XE282HR clearance
I'm about to install a Comp Cams XE282HR (# 35-522-8) camshaft in my engine. It's a 306 with Mexican block (D1ZM), TRW L2482 forged pistons, Edelbrock Performer RPM heads. CR 9.5:1

The heads have 2.02"/1.60" valves, the pistons are flat tops with 2.7cc valve reliefs. The block has not beend decked, as well as the heads. Fel Pro 8548-2 head gaskets, compressed thickness 0.047".

From your experience, is it likely I'll have to fly cut the pistons for PtV clearance? Of course I will clay the pistons with the new cam, but it would help me a lot for planning if I knew what to expect before tearing the engine apart.

Thanks,

Simon

Typically with a good after market piston with valve reliefs that cam will clear fine. Having said that there is no way for me to really know for sure and it is something you absolutley want to check before you run the motor.

Mick, thanks for the quick reply.

You're right I will never run a cam with these specs without checking. I just want to know what to expect. The wheather is too fine at the moment to have the engine sitting disassembled for weeks.

Can't post no links here, but the pistons specs are # TRW-L2482F60 on the summitracing homepage

Actual picture of them installed in my engine is attached

Do the valve reliefs look big enough or rather not?
