Exclamation XIM issue?
For anyone using an XIM, have you come across any issues w/ it malfunctioning? How durable are they?

I've got an issue and believe it to be the box but would like others input on it before I possibly chuck out the window and hit the nearest pedestrian as I'm at the end of my rope here.

93 LT1, XFI using XIM w/ Ls2 coils, FAST crank trigger. All the coils will not fire when cranking the car. 3 to 4 maybe and the spark is extremely low. Initially the spark was strong but it progressively gets worse w/ each crank to where there is no spark at all after the 3rd attempt. 4th attempt and as soon as you turn the key off one coil will fire rapid sparks for 2-5 secs. I no longer have cam syn or cam signal either after the 1st attempt at cranking the car. It'll appear then dissappear. The opti I'm using is a converted opti w/ one slot open and the opti is fine. I can put the same opti on another car w/ a classic fast, spin it and hear the coils firing. Even a spare opti I'm using will have the same result. Take the opti off the other car and apply it to mine and get nothing as well. This all leads me to the XIM box as the wiring is perfect, no radio interfernce and a min 10.5 volts when cranking.

The car hasn't worked since going this route even after extensive help from a well know expert in the field...even though it's reportedly a easy system to use and get to work.

Thanks for any input.

Let's check a few things.
The dip switches are set correctly inside the xim?
The CAN wires are connected properly? Look at the help menu.
Are you using the 9d firmware in your XFI? It will show XIM RPM and XIM Sync
What does that show?

Brian,

Yes to all of the above. I did get an error code 128 but that was corrected. Aside from that everything checks out. The only thing worth mentioning is on occassion the fuse on the harness will pop in the XIM. No rhyme or reason to it. All connections are secured, cleaned of debri etc. Put a new fuse in the spark is hot but the car won't start as it's only lighting off a couple of coils.

If you are popping fuses then there is something more to the picture. The XIM harness was stand alone and the battery connections should have gone directly to the battery. The fuse is for the coils and should not have had a problem since the power comes directly from the battery to the fuse and then the relay.

It sounds like you may have an issue with wiring or the box itself.... As long as the dip switches are correct. If they are not then the XIM can cause the coils to restart since it will re-count your teeth in the wrong mannor.

It's got to be the box then as the XIM is wired directly to the battery as instructed. Just don't know what could cause that. I'll be contacting fast to have it inspected.

If it is the box, would that possible explain only a few coils just firing as opposed to all 8?
