You should be using a steel melonized dist. gear with that camshaft. As far as timing goes there is not a recomended timing for a camshaft. It is depedant on your individual setup and will not be the same in every motor with that cam. We generally recomend starting at around 12-14 degrees initial and just tuning from there to whatever the motor runs its best at.

IMO...for what thats worth...

That cam will need about 18 initial to get a good clean and quick start up.

The motor will want 36 total and about 28-30 at idle with the vac line connected to CONSTANT manifold Vacuum.

The issue your going to run into is as you advance the inital timing your also increasing the total so you'll end up with about 45-50* on mechanical timing and it'll go into full detonation as the RPM's come up and ...did I mention we have a sale on pistons this week?

Getting that distributor curved needs to be left to a professional. Mechanical stops need to be installed and the vac can needs to adjusted correctly to give you plenty of advance at idle and part throttle/cruise.

search FBO distributors on Google, lots of good info in their tech section.

If you find a page that starts out 'Choose from 3 custom-curved billet aluminum distributors" Delete it immediatly from your cache it's infected with that stuff laying in the grass behind the bull.
