Default Xtreme Energy XR264HR Cam Tuning
Hello. I put an Xtreme Energy XR264HR Cam Kit (K08-501-8) in my 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe 5.7l Engine, which has been swapped into a 2000 Chevrolet S-10. I also put Hedman Headers to help the exhaust breathe, as per the recommendations on your site (I needed them anyway).
My issue: when I start the truck, for the first 10-15 seconds, it seems to hunt from 650RPM to 250RPM. If I give it gas, it comes up fine. After the first 15 seconds, it seems to be fine. The engine seems responsive and strong, and it idles at about 650RPM. This condition occurs regardless of engine temperature (cold or hot)
Now I did note when I purchased this Kit that tuning wasn't required, but it was recommended. I have a tool to tune the computer, and I have access to a GM tech, so I was wondering it anyone could lead me to understand what parameters I need to adjust in the computer to compensate for the new cam kit?
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!

Bill.

Bill it does sound like a tune would help your idle issue. Most tuners let you adjust timing curve and fuel curves, however I can not provide tuning specifics to you as to what to adjust. You would need to discuss the specifics of your settings with a qualifed tuner or the company you have purchased your tuner from.

I understand there is a concern about liability. What I'm trying to understand is what is the difference from the factory cam and this one? I'm sure Comp Cams did their own tuning, and figured this out, but I can't go back to my tuner company without know what the details of the change is (I'm using EFILive)

Thanks.

As far as the difference between the two cams there is a lot. The duration, lift, LSA, and lobe design are all different. As far as the difference in the tune goes I simply can not say. That is not only dpendant on the camshaft but on your whole combination of parts, elevation, etc. I am not a computer tuner and can not offer you any expert advise in this area. Any good tuner should be able to tune that camshaft in without much of a hassle. it is not an overly large cam. They should not need any type of base line from us as no other tuners do.

Thanks. I'll take both Cam Cards to EFILive, and see what they can do for me.
